I know there was another thread on this topic (sort of) a while ago, but I found how this was portrayed in the story and some of the reaction interesting.  I didn't see this live, but I would bet that what one of the commenters in the story said was true..... that the caddy was probably holding the flagstick so he would have been walking to the hole anyways.  Either way, probably not a great look for Dufner.

If I were in the lead and shot over par like he did, I wouldn't be too happy either. Thats some of the most tame treatment of a caddy that Ive seen. If anyone wants to feel bad for a caddie, look up how Bubba treats his guy.

I don't care.

If his caddie is offended that's between them. I refuse to be offended on behalf of someone else.

I'd rather see personality than robots.

I agree, I'd like to see more on tour....positive and negative.  Rory throwing his club in the water, fist pump after a made putt, something that shows they care.  I realize they very much do, but few show any emotion, unless it's the ryder cup....  Which is interesting that some of them seem to play so well when letting emotion take over, (Rory, Patrick Reed) you'd think maybe they'd let that style carry over more to individual play.  But, I guess part of my point in the original post is how people totally overreact to stuff like this.

I'm surprised but not terribly offended.  Wonder if the caddie gave a bad read or he wasn't happy with him.  At least he wasn't yelling or swearing at him...

I've never been a Dufner fan at all for various reasons but I don't find this offensive in the least.

Like this?

I heard one this week at the RBC. Hot Mic next to a green and the player asked his putter "why do you keep f**cking me all day?"

In my eyes, no different than a hitter dropping his bat in the batter's box after ball 4 for the bat boy to grab.  He was ticked and just starting toward the next tee box with caddie most likely heading to put the flag in anyway.  Nothing to see here.

haha, well I hear you and I'm not saying we need more f-bombs caught on live tv.  I'm just amazed at the lack of emotional response of most guys.  I think that's part of the appeal of the ryder cup, they seem to let their guard down in that respect since it's more acceptable to show emotion in a team setting I guess.

No big deal and totally tame. I'll give you a good one.

I was caddying for Jerry McGee back in the '70's at the IVB Golf Classic in Philly (before the tour players had their own caddies). He was making a nice move on Sunday (from around 60th to around 45th) and hit a poor approach on 17 and threw his club into an adjacent bunker. I was stunned but obviously had no choice but to go and get the club and rake the bunker. Very few people saw it, as the leaders had yet to tee off.

Except that golfers normally don't do that.  To make your analogy he would have just laid the club on the bag on the way to the next tee.  I've never seen a golfer do what Dufner did...which is why I said I was surprised.  I'm not surprised to see a hitter drop the bat in the batters box.

Yeah, this is really no big deal. If his caddie was actually annoyed (which I doubt), a two-second apology probably squashed the whole thing.

I actually thought it was funny. He just dropped it right where caddy had to put flag back in. If he had slung it away into the grass somewhere for caddy to have to go retrieve then that wouldve been a douchebag move.

non-story, except for someone trying to manufacture something

Remember, the caddy is just as invested as the player is. The caddy's paycheck is based on a percentage of what the player earns.
