I'm guessing, too, that his switch is because this new golf company wants a big name to tout their clubs and are paying him a small fortune to do so.  I think this is a good bet.

Spieth moved to the 718 AP2. That is changing clubs.

I'm pretty sure there are worse choice's he could make. Sure, they're not what you would call popular on the main tours but they are well made. My local course is an approved fitter for them and they look the biz. Not for us working class folk though, even the 1 or 2 star rated clubs are a "touch" on the pricey side.

You are bringing up points that make no point at all to the argument being made.

The argument is isolated to those who switched clubs. If you look at that pool of players, they struggled.

I hope it works out for Rose, he's a good player.

To be accurate, many have struggled. Others… did just fine. We obviously tend to remember those who struggled, but I do think it's accurate that switching (nearly) all your clubs increases the likelihood of struggling than staying with the same manufacturer. The guys at the top tend to stay at the top… and JRose is one of those guys.

History being littered with guys who chased the money and fell off a cliff doesn't mean the majority of those switching struggled, of course.

It seems odd that Rose would switch being that his playing has been so spectacular this year. But I guess when you’re as good a ball striker as Rose is any quality iron is gonna be sufficient. There must be some good incentives to change though considering the history of players who have struggled. I would also figure that players who really work the ball (Bubba) would be more affected by club/ball changes than those who just have a solid stock shot style of play. Just my two cents.

G Mac would be the first to pop in my mind of someone doing good, switch to different MFG for $$$ and then fell off the map... don't see his name in the leader board much anymore.

Honma is big with the LPGA.  So Yeon Ryu and Shen Shen Feng play Honma.

I have tried 2 different models.  They are kinda like Miura's, buttery soft but with Gold on some and mega $$$'s.

Hope it works for Rosey... I like him.  He's a good golfer and a Gold Medal winner!!

There is nothing I love to see more than a mid-to-high handicapper showing up on the 1st tee with these custom clubs.  Easiest marks in the world.  It's not like they don't know they're making bad bets and will lose.  They know.  But they can't help it.  It's fascinating to watch.

They do seem to be very good clubs though.

I think what I didn't account for was the idea that Justin Rose is a relatively smart guy with a relatively simple swing that doesn't require too much. And mostly I didn't necessarily account for the fact that equipment has gotten a lot better since, say, Payne Stewart. Or even Nick Price, or Corey Pavin.
