"This is a gold forum after all."

What's a "Gold" forum?

- - - - - -

It’s a golf forum.  And you are not entitled to The Sand Trap as a First Amendment right; this is a privately run site where the owner(s) have a right to run it in the ways they see fit. They are extremely permissive/gracious in how they run it; they have generally wanted people to get to know each other by participating in a variety of discussions on all parts of our lives, I’d assume that was the purpose of the comment.

As another poster mentioned, the First Amendment only applies to the federal government and, through incorporation via the Fourteenth Amendment, to the state governments.  It does not apply to private actors, such as this forum.

Regardless, this is the COVID thread, and yesterday the US set another record.

The United States reported 3,124 coronavirus-related deaths Wednesday, the highest single-day total of the pandemic, according to Johns Hopkins University.

That brings the total number of Covid-19 fatalities recorded in the country to at least 289,373.

Another 221,267 cases were also reported on Wednesday, bringing the country's total to at least 15,386,562, according to JHU's tally.

My prayers go out to all who have been affected, and, doubly so to the healthcare workers who are fighting this battle.

We have to watch out with the death totals for the day. A lot of data is backlogged or not submitted daily. I would look at the data on more of a 7 day total. That would flatten it out a bit.

100% correct, I just took a look at the CDC statistics.  Weekends are really clear, as many fewer deaths and new cases are reported on weekends.  Even so, the 7-day average numbers are steadily rising.  For reference:

Well, my wife and I are starting isolation for a few days. Found out a family member who we last saw 7 days ago got sick Wednesday and tested positive. Cdc updated that if we test today/tomorrow and are negative or go 10 days without symptoms from last contact, we are good to go. Haven’t had any symptoms, so we are hopeful.

Time to set up my golf net for a few days.

Good luck, Phil.  Let us know as soon as you two test negative.

One of my wife's classmates, 65-ish and pillar of their small rural community, died in a far-away hospital.  They had a big church funeral, no masks.

At the same time, his wife died in the far-away hospital.

Yesterday was my wife's BD, and she wanted to go to Chili's for our regular shared fajitas.  I just couldn't let us let our guard down when we have done so good, an end being in sight.

So we ordered them To Go, and had a nice evening at home.

We're putting off going to our Florida home, but our Minnysoduh Snowbird friends got there and opened the house for us a couple days ago.  This 25° and white stuff is not to our liking.  But, we have some unfinished projects, and Florida will still be there, maybe, when they're done.

Florida is wasted on old people.

Good news on Moderna's efficacy: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/15/health/covid-moderna-vaccine.html

Quote

The federal government signed deals last summer with Moderna and Pfizer to deliver a total of 200 million doses in the first quarter of 2021. Because both vaccines require two doses, those contracts guaranteed enough doses for 100 million people.

Last week the government announced that it had [purchased another 100 million doses from Moderna for the second quarter, increasing the number of Americans who can be vaccinated to 150 million. But that still leaves the question of how and when the roughly 180 million other Americans will be covered.

And that.

Wonderful.  My wife and I have each had potential exposures, and tested negative.  Even though the potential contact in each case was pretty limited, and  we felt confident that we didn't have it, it was a relief to get the test results.

    • I apologize for resurrecting this thread but I thought this would be relevant information. The difference between Tiger's dip and Hogan's dip is that Hogan stopped the dip past P6 and only raised his head from that point on, even while hitting a driver. Tiger's just kept dipping past P7 and maybe P8. Mac O'Grady also raised his head in the downswing as well after his dip, just a bit earlier at P5 onwards. I believe this is a big part of the reason why Tiger needed multiple back surgeries and Hogan none, even Byron Nelson needed back surgery in his 40s as recalled in his autobiography and he definitely had a major head dip that continued past P7.  Now, I notice this head raising in downswing move after the post P4 dip only occurs with Hogan and Mac and very very very few others; I'd say 99.99% of golfers including the top tour pros today continue to dip past P6 and P7 especially with the longer clubs. That would mean only a handful of golfers in the world would truly pass Key #1 if this move was required to master it.
    • For any one wanting a cheaper sharpening option, the Accusharp is decent and requires no skill level to use.  Amazon.com
    • Can't find the article or blog but I remember reading about Paul Wood (PING engineer) talking about how from a physics standpoint, more compact heads worked better for more skilled players. Basically a longer/wider face makes it harder for the better player to square up the face and hit the center. This bit hints at it.

    • Day 8.  Spent ten minutes hitting 8-iron and 6-iron indoors, off a mat, into a net.  Took about as many minutes.  Then, I wandered out back to do Speed Sticks.  I haven't read the rules of that encouragement role, but I should:  my last time (before a few minutes ago) using speed sticks, or at least measuring it, was October 25.
