They are now starting to test ALL teen athletes in Michigan on a weekly basis. They are going to find constant asymptomatic cases, the same way they did when they started testing wrestlers. These sports seasons will go nowhere now, sadly. Another year of needless cancelations and disappointments. 

I hear you. Which is why I don't understand the refusal to wear masks by some that have no reason other than they can't be told what to do by birthright. Straight up dick out- f*** you to the rest. Nice.

I’m sure you’re aware the issue with kids getting COVID-19 isn’t necessarily about how it affects them, but that they can transmit the virus to those who could be severely impacted by it.

Allowing a subset of the population to be unrestricted from all safety mandates undermines everything we’ve been doing for the past year.

I feel like there are a lot of people who don't realize/think of that, which makes me question their mental capacity for decision making across the board.

Do people have a false sense of security wearing non-n95 type masks. Most of our 'designer' masks are not that effective stopping contaminates from entering one's lungs. If kids going back to school are required to wear masks, they should at least be n95 level masks.

I don't have a false sense of security, since masking is a risk reduction measure. The common masks (surgical, cloth, etc.) prevent spread of the wearer's droplets and aerosols, and offer some protection to the wearer from droplets/aerosols from others. The risk reduction from these types of masks is effective when everyone wears them. It's not meant to be an iron clad protection, but indoors with other people all wearing masks, they do provide significant protection (along with other measures like physical distancing and reduced occupancy).

N95 mask protection is limited unless they are worn and fitted properly. Anything that interferes with the seal of the mask to your skin renders it way less effective. I see men with big bushy beards with an N95 mask plopped over it. I'm not sure if kids, younger ones at least, would be able wear them well, if there were kid sized N95 available. The scientific data, thus far, indicates that kids don't spread the virus as effectively as adults so I think kids are fine in school with regular masks, reduced class size, and good ventilation. Teachers on the other hand, should have priority to vaccination, and have access to N95 masks (at least I would want an N95 mask if I were a teacher, although teaching with an N95 mask might be difficult).

I totally understand the human desire to get back to normal, but if we rush it (and it appears that's the case) then we'll be back to abnormal.

An awful lot of people seem to treat facial coverings as a form of security.  They're for when you cannot maintain whatever the safe distance is, such as grocery shopping;  there are plenty of people who think it's safe to congregate in groups for periods of time as long as everyone's wearing a mask.  I doubt it's as safe as they think it is.

This has been a sore spot of mine for a while. The priority has been mask mask mask in the media and by the government. To me, that is priority 3. The top priory is distancing. 2nd is hand washing while mask wearing is 3rd. I’m even willing to flip mask wearing and hand washing as priorities, but they almost make it sound like, and many people believe, that wearing a mask is all that is required.

I think yours are out of order.

A mask basically multiplies distance a bunch. Washing hands does very little here, too.

My aunt, uncle, and cousin caught COVID. It was my cousin, who is under 18, that caught it and transmitted it to his parents.
