Depends on pin and green.

Front / protected pin= high lob wedge, about 3/4 strength

Back / open pin= knockdown sand wedge from back of the stance

pretty much as stock 52 with a touch of choke.

Jordan tried that shot last Sunday, but put a little more choke on it than he intended.

From 75-120 yards it's a either just under half swing or 3/4 swing with different clubs for me The half swing is what produces a flighted wedge for me

You're hitting a 3/4 lob wedge 100 yards???

I don't really have one right now.  I prefer to be at 90 or 110.

With my old clubs, 100 was a perfect, smooth sand wedge (56).  With my new set, I have a 54.5 and a 59, neither of which I have totally dialed in.  But for now, 100 seems to be right between the two ... so I will try and hit the 54.5 at 90% or so.

Fun to go back and read your own old posts on threads like this.

Currently, my "full" swing SW (which is now a 54) is about 100 yards, give or take.  The quotes are there because I have learned not to try and kill short irons anymore, so "full" is only 3/4 or so on most shots from about 8 iron on down.

Any wind in the mix and I'm going to club up to GW or even PW and flight it as necessary.  Didn't have that in my arsenal back when I made the above post either. :)

Yeah my approaches aren't necessarily orthodox. I like to hit down on the ball with a lot of shaft lean (almost like a punch out) for anything around 125 and in, it's been getting the job done for so long I'm scared to change.

Because I'm an idiot and haven't ingrained what is discussed in this thread:

My 100 yard shot is a full swing lob wedge.

I really have to implement that which is discussed in the above thread.

Assuming it's a mostly normal green, a partial PW. Imo, that shot is so much more consistent than a full SW (or whatever wedge). In the past it would have been a GW, but I've taken to the PW more for the 100'ish to 60 yds range.

Perfect 1/2,3/4 inch of choke down Gap wedge. Full Gap goes about 104/105. That's my favored layup distance for just that reason. If there is ANY issues in front then it's a full Gap with a hope for some backspin just be sure, in case of a slight mishit.

100 yds? a full GW or a fat 8 iron.

    • I've had this one since 2021.  Amazon.com No complaints.  I had to reglue the little Velcro tabs onto the yellow foam guide thingies. But that's not a big deal. The Velcro came off almost immediately and I put them back on using super-glue and they've been fine ever since. I've hit a lot of balls off this in my garage and I have no complaints.
    • I've been thinking about buying a hitting mat for home indoors use. I currently only got a small patch of some mat I bought years ago and stand on a wooden platform. It'd be nice having a mat to stand on and hit from. After some searching, I see Fiberbuilt often being praised. Not sure if I can get hold of it easily here, and buying internationally can get expensive for a mat that's already quite pricey (~$800). The Wittek Quattro is also usually favorably mentioned, and at half the price (~$400) of the Fiberbuilt. Anyone have experince with this mat? Any other suggestions?
    • It just occurred to me that the last time I was serious about golf, my woods were made of….wood! Also interestingly (to me anyway) as I shopped for “woods”, mostly on eBay, I found that all the clubs in really nice cosmetic/aesthetic shape (good finish, nice club face, good grip) were woman’s clubs. Seems they either take really good care of them or don’t use them much.    And lastly, for now anyway, I went to a range today that has Top Tracer monitors at all the stations - another “new” development that may have been around for quite a while, but this was a first for me. I found it useful although I’m sure I only scratched the surface of its capabilities.
    • Agreed. For me, the feel was introduced to get the arms moving down from the top. It wasn't necessarily a "get it in front of the hip" explanation as the correct position but more for an exaggerated feel to get rid of the earlier issue.
