I'll be impressed if he makes the cut and is physically able to play all 4 rounds.

I don't really have a reason to be impressed or not, but as I see it:

  1. Play two rounds without pain or any physical discomfort
  2. Make the cut
  3. Play four rounds without pain or any physical discomfort

Winning is far down on the list. Practice is not the PGA Tour. The issues with striping it on the range and in practice rounds and struggling on the Tour will work itself out as long as he stays healthy and is able to play golf.

People close to him always says he's flushing it in practice. For all we know he might be, but it doesn't really matter until he can do it on the Tour.

Who is going to caddy for him?  I would think that is going to be a pretty high pressure gig with the focus from the media/public and also from tiger and his game.

Joe LaCava is still his caddy and Chris Como his coach.

That's interesting. Wonder what Joe's been up to the past year and a half?  Haven't seen him on anyone's bag and I can't imagine he has a nest egg he'd have lived off over that time.  Do you know if he's remained on Tiger's payroll?

That's what I was wondering - being out injured is one thing but being out because someone else is injured and may or may not play next week or never must be tough.

I'd guess Tiger pays him by the season, not the event given Tiger traditionally plays less events than most pro's. Since Tiger is hurt he probably paid him anyway.

I agree 100%. I'd be shocked if Tiger didn't pay him. When he's hurt that's not Joe's fault. He's getting something - probably a lot.

Honestly, the most important thing for Tiger is to stay healthy for a while. This injury and surgery takes a long time to recover from. Graham DeLaet had it, and I think he's said it took him 2 years to get back to 100%. The biggest obstacle for Tiger will be to stay healthy long enough to get to that point.

Yes - if he gets reinjured or tweaks something he's probably done with his career. Which is probably why he took extra time to recover this time, he realized if he gets hurt again his career could be over.

If he's anything like his former self, he might even win next week.

He won't win this week. No way.

Just think how crazy it would be if he does... it would be talked about for a very long time.

I bet Joe has a pretty good sized bank account. He's caddied for top players for decades.

It's a good guess, but the question was whether Joe remained on Tiger's payroll.  Do you have information in that regard?

I'm guessing if Tiger wasn't paying him then he'd be on someone else's bag by now.

Or doing something else.  Yes, I would think so too.  Zeph answered with such authority earlier, I thought he might be in the know, evidently not.  Thanks Mike.

    • I find that "hate" and "love" are far too strong for something like this. I've played soccer, and I like to win and dislike losing. Same for golf. Maaaaaybe I dislike losing a bit more than I like winning, but… nothing in the past ten years has really affected my mood more than about taking me from a 5 to a 5.5 or a 4.5. I "won" things at the TST outing this summer, and it just… was. Which sounds like I'm on mood depressors or something, and I'm just completely leveled out, but… I'm not. I just like to think I keep things in perspective.
    • Would You Rather Number 64: Would you rather be a person who loves to win? or  Would you rather be a person who hates to lose?  Bonus question: You can respond with what you actually think you are, in addition to which one you'd like to be.
    • In response to the first question, yes - I have reduced my average score in 9-hole league rounds by about 3 strokes.  As the attached plot chart shows, my high scores decreased and my low scores also deceased.  So I am scoring in an overall lower range. For the second question, I expect to make some improvement next year based on the results I am seeing in my recent practice rounds.  However, I have noticed that "plateaus" in scoring (and many stats) can persist for long time periods and can be permanent.  With advancing age and decreasing swing speed I may be mostly just working to maintain my current skill level.  I do expect a more consistent range of scoring as the result of frequent practice and overall playing experience.
