If I can't find someone to play with, I won't play.

I'm fortunate in that I can almost always find a playing partner or 3.  Admittedly, it took some work when I first moved to town, but now I run a group of 8-12 guys....and we always welcome others to join in.  Not everyone plays every round, but there's always at least 4 on Sundays, and a couple of us can sometimes break away early in the afternoon one other day.

I get a bit of both. If I don't mind playing with someone, I'll book a time the day before or early in the day. That often means someone else will join. Or I might book a spot with someone else that's already booked. If I want to play alone, I'll book the time just before going out. Playing alone and well, I get around in 2:30+. I prefer playing alone most of the time, but company is nice now and then.

The courses around me are busy enough that I'll usually get paired up with other people. Plus, a lot of courses won't let me book a time as a single, so I have to tag along with other groups to guarantee I have a slot. I don't really like to play alone, but I will if I have to. I only have a couple of friends that play and for some strange reason they don't like playing at the crack of dawn, so I make do.

I'm fortunate, my brother lives close by and we joined the same country club, so I have someone to play with a almost all the time.  If he wasn't as close, I would probably get in on the Men's club and play, I'm sure I would find a few guys that I would hit it off with and be able to enjoy a round of golf.

After 2 years, playing alone is still my favorite. I really enjoy one playing partner as well though. Being in a group of 4 irritates the hell out of me, just takes too long for my liking.

@Valleygolfer i can understand where youre coming from, especially if it seems like youre playing alone all the time.  that would def get tiring.

i dont mind playing alone, except for the fact that i have terrible eyesight and another person watching helps me tremendously.

I like playing alone for practice...but don't like it for fun.

I don't worry about scoring, or what the ball is doing...it's the best time for me to focus on my swing outside of the garage. I'll hit multiple balls, practice putting while I'm waiting on people, etc.,

If I played Sunday mornings or Saturday's I would probably be paired up. Since I play off hours, I end up alone. I like to play alone @colin007 but I wish it was half and half. I don't ride myself as much if someone else is around.

I don't like playing alone. I would hate to do it all the time. I just seem to rush around the greens when I am by myself. Don't know why but I do. Good thing for me I have a regular 4some(for now at least), I have an automatic playing partner whenever I want(my wife) and when I go out by myself I almost always find someone to pair up with. The key to the last part is not being picky and just being willing to go up to anybody and join up.

I like playing alone, it's quiet, I'm more focused, if players are in front of me I'll pitch or putt on the green while waiting for them on the next tee.

I also have a permanent playing partner (wife). My foursome for sunday mornings seems to get a little aggravating, too slow, then again it's two older men, both in their 70's and walking, so I'm being a d**k, but its still nice to get out and play. Play about 4 or 5 different courses for birthday or celebration rounds otherwise it's the home course. Sorry just rambling.

I play alone 60% of the time. When I play alone I can take the time to focus on doing things right and learn from my mistakes. Nobody is rushing me. Every time I play alone I feel I improved some part of my game.

However, it's more fun to play with other people, even if they are strangers.

Depends on whether it means playing with strangers or with friends. I prefer to play with friends but strangers can be hit or miss.

Like the op, I typically play alone as I live somewhat in the country.  Most of my buddies are too "busy" (i.e. whipped) to hit the course often.  My brother and I play every other weekend, but the rest of the time I am alone.  I don't mind it really, it is zen like.  I typically play empty, rural courses where I have the place to myself.  That being said, after 3 or 4 rounds alone I am ready to share the experience with someone.

At my work, we play after work ends on Wednesday. Anyone from work that wants to play is welcome to... I suck and usually shoot high 50's to low 60's. I'm only able to play 9 because I need to get home... living 1 1/2 hours from work is a bummer because there are times when I'd like to play 18 but know that my wife doesn't appreciate it. So I don't.

I'd like to play on the weekends sometime but there's no one for me to play with... I just can't bring myself to go it alone yet. I know I should. I want to. Just can't do it.

Chris

I don't play golf, I play at golf. There's a difference.

I actually prefer to play alone.  I can play quicker, and for me (95% of the time I play unlimited twilight) that means more golf.

I play alone about 1/3 of my rounds and enjoy the relative solitude and concentrating on my game.  I play another 1/3 of my rounds with friends and family and enjoy the conversation, jokes, and occasional $$ matches or just bragging rights.  I play the final 1/3 of my rounds with strangers I am paired up with and have met some nice people and enjoy it, but would prefer playing with friends or solo. I am also an avid fly fisherman and prefer to fish by myself, and I am equally comfortable by myself on the course.

I'm surprised that so many like playing alone.  I quit playing the game back in the 80's for the very reason it was too hard to find playing partners.

Thankfully, now that I'm back into it, and retired, I play five mornings a week with the men's association at my club.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
