I would say I spend about 50% of my practice time in the short game area.Β  I work on bunker shots, just of the green with my PW, and then back up to 50 yards, and go 50-40-30-20 with about 20 balls at each location.Β  It has helped out my short game tremendously, and I now have the confidence to get up and down from anywhere around the green.Β  In fact, yesterday I went out and it was a bit windy, I only hit 38% GIR, but shot a 76 just because I was able to get up and down.Β  Time spent on the short game is time well spent IMO.

I avoid over-practicing my short game because I want my scores to actually decrease. 35% on short game (including putting) is just about enough.

I spent no more than 25% on my short game. If I do go to a range, I typically spend most of my time in grooving my long game.

Not me.

My long game is not near good enough to start focusing on my short game that much.

Generally speaking the only time I practice my short game is right before a round. I'll usually spend about 20 minutes hitting pitches from 30 yards and in on the practice green to loosen up and also get a feel for the green speeds. Β I may or may not hit some putts too but generally I just pitch using my #sexxyknees technique. B-)

I need distance so ... yes, I do spend time on the short game, but it is about 25%.

I spend the majority of time on full swing drills, and changing the picture.

unequivocal answer is "NO"

I'm lucky if I get 10%-15% of both short game and putting practice together.

However, this is only because there is a flaw in my long game that needs to be addressed first. Β I will start to put more time to short game and putting once I am not hitting 3-5 OBs each round though!

Right now I'm probably 50/50. Β My routine is: putt, then chip, then full swings. Β That all takes less than 30 minutes.

For a pro and practicing lots of hours a day, say six, then I can understand the 70% short game. Β With those kind of hours, they have to be concerned with wear and tear on the body from the full swings.

Yup, for instance I spent all day on Sunday in the short practice area, must have been an hour in the bunkers alone, lots of chipping from the grassy areas, lag putting was a priority.

Also I'm a regular at the short 3-par course, I go at slow times and play 3-4 balls off the tee (never with anyone behind me) no tees allowed! always just drop the ball to simulate fairway approaches, and will spend a lot of time around the greens.

You just can't practice this stuff at the range, short shots off the mats are a waste of time IMO, it's a totally different feel, and you can't take a divot, so for me the only thing I'm at the range for is driver and long irons/H/W's, and swing mechanics obviously.

For the high handicapper like myself, until I can keep the ball in play consistently I'm going to be practicing 90% long game. I lose so many shots off the tee its not even funny.

My short game is actually pretty good. Β I know i could use some work on my bunker shots but I might have 1 of those a round on average so its not a big concern.

I'm not saying short game doesn't have it's place in the practice but 70% is ridiculous.
