Thoughts in terms of what?  What is your motivation to play tees that are 6,000 yards?

That's the yardage that I like to play from...[ 5800/6200] I seldom hit a drive 275 so any of the longer courses I've played years ago I no longer play unless they have tee areas that allow for the distances I want ....With these distances I'm able to use most all the clubs in the bag...

The courses I play aren't easy to play you need to hit the ball pretty straight if not you'll be in trouble a lot...Doglegs...elevated greens....good bunkering...tough ruffs and fast greens make them a good test....

Hopefully not a thing other than theyre getting harder and harder to find. Im 32 and in pretty good shape but i can not hit the ball over 193 yards at the moment. With no time to practice i can only maintain one swing. My steep iron swing works pretty well most says so thats what i stick with. But my woods are getting worse and worse. Even when i hit my woods decent i usually hit my hybrid 4 or my 5 iron further and straighter so trying to force myself to tee it forward at all costs...well maybe other than playing the ladies tees. ( probably not gonna do that anytime soon)

My co workers love to bash my scores from one of my two home courses cus its only like 4600 yards. But its a test like u describe. Hit it perfect or just write down an 8 cus ur not gettin up and down from the lake, or the pothole bunkers, or the creek. And the greens are tiny. They make fun but only one guy has ever been brave enough to come play it with me and hes brand new at golf so hes got guts.

If the "ladies tees" are 6000 yards, then play the ladies tees. Also, they're not the "ladies tees," they're whatever yardage they are. I play blue when it's an executive course and white when it's longer. If I went to play Bethpage Black, I'm playing the farthest forward tees they have.

+1 exponentially!!!

Play the tees that work for you.  I do.  My brother and I played marathon golf last week, and the longest tees we played were about 6600 yards (my old home course which I know better than I know my back yard), but most of the time we were at 6100 - 6300 (in Colorado a mile above sea level), and we didn't care what anyone else thought.  By getting to the first tee ahead of anyone we got paired with and parking at the shorter tees (usually white, where there were still blue and black behind us), we managed to get the other guys to play up with us.

We had a really fun week, and found that we can still shoot bad scores from much shorter tees. :smartass:

This year I moved my group up to a bit less than 6000 yards from 6500. All of us are 20+ HCs and are having a lot more fun. Plus it gave us 20+ new guys to play with.

One thing that can influence tee-box choice is turf and tree conditions.

Years ago down in Oklahoma, I regularly played two courses at Fort Sill army base that were about three miles apart. One course was located with a running creek and lagoons, and had a rich loamy soil that supported lots of tall oak and sycamore trees. Distance from white tees measured about 6,100 yards.

A second course was a stretch of harder, red clay with a couple of lakes and creeks, but generally smaller and sparser trees. It measured 6,400 yards from the white tees.

I consistently scored three to five strokes better on the longer course : The drives ran out farther on the harder soil fairways, and the longer more level greens lent themselves better to my chip-and-run game.

Drives ran out less on the softer, shorter course. Fairways were tighter and the trees encroached on the greens more. Wedge shots into the smaller greens were tough, having to get out of thicker grass and still dodge tree branches.

Focus, connect and follow through!

6200 is my go to yardage. I played in Chicago last week. Played the Glen Club and Cog Hill #4. Mistakenly played 6600 at glen and appropriately played closer to 6k at Cog. Had much more fun at Cog. Granted, I think cog is just an easier course than Glen, but yardage could definitely be a factor in my judgment. Give me 6200 yards all day and every day.

Really about how long the longest par 4's are. The short side at our course has three par 3's so it's unwise to use the total distance as a difficulty gauge. At 6500 yards from the tees I play it feels longer.

A 6000 yard course can be plenty challenging for most skill levels, with enough forced layups it can play easily 500 more yards.
