Not giving myself a 2nd shot worth a damn...!!

Driver and woods off the tee seemingly always find OB or end up under/behind a tree. It's killing my scores.

Gonna try going back to 16* hybrid and/or 4i off the tee. Every other part of my game is clicking, so I don't mind slightly reduced distance to be in the FW.

I rarely get up and down from 20 yards and in from the pin.  I also play a hilly course and have been terrible on downhill lies.

I have only been able to practice and play about once per week which is inadequate at my 18.0 HCP to make much improvement.

Ensure your shoulders are at the same angle as the decline/incline

In my bag (Motocaddy Light)

Taylormade Burner driver, Taylormade 4 wood, 3 x Ping Karsten Hybrids, 6-SW Ping Karsten irons with reg flex graphite shafts. Odyssey putter, 20 Bridgestone e6 balls, 2 water balls for the 5th hole, loads of tees, 2 golf gloves, a couple of hand warmers, cleaning towel, 5 ball markers, 2 pitch mark repairers, some aspirin, 3 hats, set of waterproofs, an umbrella, a pair of gaiters, 2 pairs of glasses. Christ, it's amazing I can pick the bloody thing up !!

Am inconsistent because I don't have enough time to play more than once or if I am lucky, twice a week.  A couple of years ago when I was playing maybe thrice a week and had a bit of time to practice (was then looking after the family coffee estate so carried a golf club into the estate with me most of the day), I was generally consistent over 18 holes and rarely had more than a bogey.  Was in the 9 to 12 range with bogey's and par's only as a rule.  Today, I have a couple of double or triple bogeys in any given round which is pushing my handicap up towards the 18 range

Thanks for the good advice. On the course I have been careless and also swing out of my shoes on the downhill lies resulting in a fat shot.  I need to practice the shot and be more deliberate on the course.

Getting off the tee.  I'm going to leave the wood and driver out of my bag for a while (maybe forever at this rate) and just use irons off the tee.  160-170 in the fairway is better than 200 OB or 20 next to the red tee.

Its a toss-up between inconsistency- ie flubs and misses and my awful sense of touch from not playing much in the last couple years.  Really bad GIR and abysmal scrambling stats.

My flubs and misses tend not to be disasterous but they do cost me. Especially when I miss the green because I almost never get it up and down.

My biggest golf problem is, I play golf.

There are some fallacies about gout. In fact, 9 out of 10 attacks are hereditary. The wrong diet is more of an issue when  you actually have it. The worst culprit is animal protein.Beer comes a close second, but wine and cider aren't to bad. Yes, the pain is horrendous, and until you have experienced it, you really don't know what suffering is about.

Gout is tough life. If you know about gout, you know about a low acid diet. If you are not actively mindful of eating alkaline diet, you should. Certainly helps if not cures.

Main issue is not laying off club on top of backswing - i.e., club across the line. Causes the same fault that I have had for years and worked mainly to improve over the last year or so - club comes in too shallow into impact causing a push if club not closed and a hook if closed. I should say, all my backswing video freezes show a marked improvement so I am finally back on a positive path.

consistent ball striking and good results from the 150-200 yard range.  Getting better, but not yet to a point where I'd call this aspect of my game 'dependable.'

Driving is good; short game and putting good; longer-range shots not so much.

Inconsistency with my ball striking and not aligning with where I want the ball to go.

I've noticed with my setup that I'll be aligned left of the target way more often than not,  I need to find a rhythm and setup routine that gets me more aligned with where I want the ball to go as opposed to what feels 'right' when I'm standing over the ball.

Inconsistency -- me too   Tue. played 9 in a senior league 5 pars 4 bogeys  because of 4 not so good shots

overall, it's alignment at this point. seems i'm always aiming 10-15 yards right of target.

a close second is my driver...i literally don't know where the ball's going on any tee shot. last round i went:

- thin/top (about 125 yds in the fairway)
- baby fade (down the middle)
- block (RH rough, under a tree)
- on the screws dead straight (fairway hit)
- block (OB right)
- dead pull (OB left)
- block (RH rough)
- slice (OB right)
- dead pull (lost ball left)
- augured 4w (ball went 40', hit cart path banking, rolled back behind the tee box...no joke)
- dead pull (water left)
- pull hook (water left)
- baby fade (fairway hit)
- push/block/fade (RH side of the OPPOSITE fairway)

scary and frustrating.

Unable to hit greens for the life of me. My tee shots are consistently very good but I just cannot hit greens with the 2nd. Doesent matter if Im 150 or 70 out I'm just not able to convert to good scores...

we have the same DNA. My fairway % is typically b/w 75-85% but my GIR % is closer to 30-40%. :-( The battle is real

Inconsistency.  One day I can hit 12 of 14 fairways... the next day I can hit 2 of 14.  One day I can get on or close to 15 of 18 greens in regulation... the net day I struggle to get on or close to 10 of 18.

My 'game' is in constant cycles.  I'll go through a period where I feel like I can hit any fairway, no matter how narrow... or I'll feel like if I have a wedge in my hand, I'm inside 20 feet with no issues.  It just never sticks.  One cycle I have never felt is a good, solid putting cycle.  It's almost always 32-38 putts in a round.  I need to get to where I can be around 30 on a fairly regular basis and my scores would improve dramatically and in a hurry.

Gout is a roaring bitch. My bruv seems to have it flare up every 6 to 8 months or so and he's damn near crippled for a week. It's love of the beer to blame in his case.

Good luck with all that.

At the risk of jinxing myself, my full swing has never been better. Maybe it just makes my short game seem that much worse. Had a wicked time with the pitches and chips lately. I've hit them thin, chucked a few, pulled a few and over-hit others. Just a little better out of those shots and I might have had my first 80-breaker.

My buddy has gout in his big toes. So, because of that, and to try and drop a little weight, he quit drinking. That's when it flared up like nobody's business!

But that's the lesser of his worries. Lately he's been firing out kidney stones like a machine gun! We played 9 this afternoon and stopped for a bite on the way home. Halfway through the meal he had to stop and run to the restroom. When he came back he was still, obviously, out of sorts. We called for our checks and before the waiter could bring them, he had to run to the restroom again. This time he vomited, passed another stone, and nearly passed out! I was a few moments away from going in after him when he showed up at the table again. Thank God I don't suffer from such afflictions! And I drink beer every day and love good food!

Anyway, back to the topic at hand. My current problem is like what the Talking Heads sang, "Same as it ever was. Same as it ever was!" Consistency! Especially in the short game. In the 9 we played today I was flat killing it off the tee, and my approach game was pretty good. If I wasn't on the green I was darn close. I hit some chips and pitches that I was overjoyed with, and others that were abysmally dismal, or dismally abysmal! Take your pick!

I shot a 41 and easily threw away 3 or 4 strokes near, or on, the green! So, it's obvious what I need to work on. Having the will to do so is what separates the really good golfers from chops like me, I guess!
