Last month I decided to try and get real serious about breaking 90.  I read up on a bunch of ideas on how to accomplish this and was able to put it into play the last three times I went golfing.  I shot an 87, 88 and 88 again.  Now here is where my superstition comes in…..  I have 4 golf bags, two nice leather staff bags and two canvas stand bags.  If it is totally sunny and Zero percent chance of rain, I will bring my Red Wilson Staff bag.  If there is a chance of rain, I will use my canvas Taylor Made stand bag.  Well the last three rounds I played it was iffy on sunshine so I had my stand bag.  I am playing tomorrow morning and it looks like it will be decent out so should I stick with the canvas stand bag that has helped me get those three rounds in the 80’s or use my leather staff bag chancing not shooting as I have the previous rounds?

I know it sounds crazy like my bag has anything to do with my score but let’s face it, humans can think and act funny from time to time.

Most of us have a ritual when we go golfing like using the same balls, favorite glove or ball marker, some have a lucky shirt, shorts or socks.  What are some of your superstitions when you go golfing?

Golf is a game where process meets superstition.

I've got a rather particular procedure for getting ready for a round and when something interrupts that in even a minor way, its not good. It can be something really dumb, like not changing into my golf shoes while sitting on back bumper of my car, not having lemon-lime flavored Gatorade or someone getting in my space on the putting green. Stuff that shouldn't have anything to do with anything.

The rational 90% knows these small things are silly, the stupid 10% is pretty sure it the cause of my troubles.

I've never really given it a thought.   I think if I had a superstition, it would be a red tee, gotta be red for my drive.   If I'm using some other club, it doesn't matter what color I use.

Glad to see some others have some.  They might not necessarily be "superstitions" but I think we all have some related to golfing.

I can't have any change in my pockets. If there is any in there or if I get some back from the cart girl, I have to put it in my golf bag. Come to think of it... I probably have $10 or more jingling around in there.

I never tee off after 8:00 AM on the weekends. Every time I do, the wife is mad when I get home.

I don't have any. I'm not superstitious at all though so that probably explains it.

So long as your superstition doesn't involve wearing the same underwear without washing them I see no harm. I'm sure we all know it's not the bag that has you swinging better but if it's oneess thing to think about it can't hurt. Try golfing three days with the staff bag to compare and see how it goes.

Any time I think to myself "I haven't lost a ball in a while" ....  So I cut myself off from thinking it.

I wasn't going to mention that one. :~(

I put a lucky golf tee behind my left ear for practical purposes.  It wouldn't make any sense to put an unlucky tee back there.  And I am careful about hats.  Some time ago I stopped pocketing feral balls except for sacrificial purposes and only then on auspicious occasions.

In der bag:
Cleveland Hi-Bore driver, Maltby 5 wood, Maltby hybrid, Maltby irons and wedges (23 to 50) Vokey 59/07, Cleveland Niblick (LH-42), and a Maltby mallet putter.                                                                                                                                                 "When the going gets tough...it's tough to get going."

Oh yes.. I don't even try to play weekends anymore. When the wife is mad at me I don't play well. Maybe I'll hit a bucket on Sunday morning but that's it.

Ball mark/repair tool has to be in my right pocket, if I put it in the left the planet could spin off its axis.

Always use a broken tee on a par 3, if I can't find one on the tee box, I'll break one.

my get up and go musta got up and went..

I'm generally afraid of vampires, so I do my very best to only play golf during daylight.  Although i HAVE needed to to play a few minutes after sundown once or twice, I don't want to push my luck.:ninja:

Some good ones in here.

I always have 3 Tees in my right pocket.  A short one, a medium and a long one.  I always use this one divot tool that looks like one of those corn on the cob holders and I always use this Italian coin I found as my marker.  My ball in play always goes in the left pocket in between holes.

I was thinking this as well but don't want to be in the 90 again!  LOL.

If you have to play near dusk, bring some garlic.

i'm superstitious in that:

- i always mark my ball with a red sharpie (not any other color)
- i always alternate gloves between holes (unless i make a birdie then i keep using that glove until i make a bogey)
- i always wear grey socks w/ my grey golf shoes, white socks with the brown pair

come to think of it, it's probably more OCD than superstition.
