This would really get into my head. I'm that guy that is always singing some song in his head as he plays anyway.

I don't have audio at work, but I'm sure I understand the message. And I always putt from the fringe so long as the fringe isn't horribly inconsistent between my ball and the edge of the green (big sprouty weeds, etc.).

Some people look at me like I'm crazy if I'm 10+ ft into the fringe and I pull out my putter haha. Last time I did that I put it stupid close to the hole for a tap in :-P

Anecdotal! I need stats!

:-)

100% of GolfDigest top 50 golf instructors named Hall or Haney tweeted it:

I know those aren't the stats we want, but at least it gets us away from those pesky numbers.  So now we can deal with https://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/appeal-to-authority

Funny but totally untrue.  64 degree all the way!  For you regular guys, though, without my magic hands . .yeah . .putt it.

I showed this to my wife, I hope she takes it to heart.  She can't chip worth a darn but she won't putt from just off the green very often.

You need smooth turf to make it work. I've tried to putt off of scruffy lies in spring or fall, only to have putts ricochet off a clump of grass and really end up in trouble. Like, an up-and-down try ends in a double bogie.

If the grass is short enough I am happy to putt from 10 yards off of the green, as invariably I will get nearer the pin than chipping the ball. I played against an 18 handicapper yesterday who is so scared of chipping he will happily putt from 50 yards off of the green. I would like to say he has mastered it, but he hasn't

In my bag (Motocaddy Light)

Taylormade Burner driver, Taylormade 4 wood, 3 x Ping Karsten Hybrids, 6-SW Ping Karsten irons with reg flex graphite shafts. Odyssey putter, 20 Bridgestone e6 balls, 2 water balls for the 5th hole, loads of tees, 2 golf gloves, a couple of hand warmers, cleaning towel, 5 ball markers, 2 pitch mark repairers, some aspirin, 3 hats, set of waterproofs, an umbrella, a pair of gaiters, 2 pairs of glasses. Christ, it's amazing I can pick the bloody thing up !!

I like this.  Think putter first and then adjust..

For me, it depends on the lie. Sometimes I'm more comfortable chipping on the collars if there is bumpy turf or grass in front of the ball. I feel like i can get a more predictable roll with a chip onto the green rather than having to deal with something weird happening in the collar. But that video brought the lulz.

I like "can't win with par you need a birdie, you need to putt it!"  I always think it's nuts when someone, on TV or in my group, decides to chip because they're "trying to make it."
