  1. 1. The official start of the 2016-2017 PGA Tour season was 10/13/2016. When does the season start for you?

    • 10/13/2016 Safeway Open
    • 1/5/2017 Tournament of Champions
    • 2/9/2017 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am (Crosby)
    • 4/6/2017 The Masters
    • Something else - please explain
    • I don't follow the PGA tour

For me, the season starts when they starting airing rounds on network channels: NBC, CBS, etc.  Because then I can actually watch it.

Stream it to an app on a tablet!

Huzzah, krupa! You sound like a guy who thinks along the same lines I do. I had Dish Network, and for a while I could get Golf Channel "a la carte", along with their basic package for so much a month. I was fine with that. Then they changed things so I had to buy their "ultra-premium" package, chock full of more channels that I will never watch but have to pay for! I don't know who's decision this was, Dish Network's, Golf Channel's, or if they did it in concert, but that pissed me off!

So, I dumped them. And I don't own a tablet! I prefer not to become a screen zombie!

As we drift into OT territory, I'll just say that after working all day in front of two computers with three screens (I'm a software engineer), I have a long list of things I want to do that don't include looking at more glowing rectangles.  Even when I sit down and watch golf, I can only sit still for about 30 minutes before I go outside and practice my chipping. :)

With already a few feets of snow on the ground here in Canada, I gotta say the Tournament of Champions at Kapalua. Those views are out of this world, I wouldn't get tired of playing that course day after day.

Its usually Kapalua anyway, but this year it's DEFINITELY this week because I got to play there this summer and now that I know the course it'll be even better watching on tv. :). Can't wait to go back!

Oh, man! It's like we're brutha's from other mutha's! i was in the same boat, except I was helping to run, or basically "ran" a wholesale beer and wine distributor. I was closeted in a tiny office, and realized I had a problem when the numbers and letters began swimming up off the screen at me! I went into sales where I could look at people's faces rather than a screen!

Having spent my Wonder Bread years in the Great Lake State; I associate golf with awakening flora.  When there is a hint of Spring in the air, or such Winter as exists locally has left the building, the new campaign begins.

Haha, I could not hit a shot like that.  Luckily for me, though, the wind was blowing as usual so there was no need.  I did hit two good shots with driver and 3 wood to reach the green - and if it were a Sunday pin I'd have had a very short eagle putt.  Unfortunately, the pin was front right and I had miles to go and three putted for par. :(

Not in 2017 for sure but I am hoping to start MY PGA season in 2022 once I get my HCP to about a +4 and win a Monday qualifier...:-D

Just kidding... I like watching Hawaii golf and TOC is fun. So, yeah, in Jan.

I'm a golf fan, so I'll watch a little bit of the Fall portion of the wraparound season if some of my favorites are in the mix, but I start ramping up interest with the Tournament of Champions!

That being said, I pretty much go all in with the PGA TOUR when the action hits Scottsdale for the Waste Management. I used to use the Match Play as my starting point, but since that's been moved back later in the season, the 16th hole at Scottsdale now gets me going full speed ahead.

Well, the TOC is first up, it's on TV, so I'll be looking in. I only have one question. How can one have a tournament of champions at the start of a season?

Just saw this: http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sports/golf/sd-sp-tiger-woods-torrey-pines-farmers-20170104-story.html

Torrey Pines Jan. 26

Quote

Woods, a seven-time winner of the PGA Tour event and an eight-time champion at Torrey Pines including his 2008 U.S. Open triumph, will be making his 2017 debut here, the Century Club announced Wednesday. ...

Hideki Matsuyama, who won that event, is one of several early commitments to the Farmers. Others include world No. 1 Jason Day, U.S. Open champ and 2016 Tour Player of the Year Dustin Johnson, PGA Championship winner Jimmy Walker, defending tournament champion Brandt Snedeker, Olympic gold medalist Justin Rose and a pair of Ryder Cup players with local ties, Rickie Fowler and Phil Mickelson. The latter’s participation is in some question; Mickelson underwent hernia surgery in October and again in December.

I used to get so excited for Kapalua and the Sony. Now ... ehhhh.
