Tiger and his Scotty Putter

  1. 1. Now that Tiger is back on another equipment deal (with TaylorMade), will he ever use a putter other than his trusted Cameron Newport model in a competitive round?

The day Nike closed their equipment business, TW put the Cameron back in the bag. Not one of the 100s of replicas Scotty Cameron has made him, he put THE putter back in the bag. The putter he used to win 13 major championships.

I am thinking he just sticks with the putter, and voted "No" in the poll above.

I also voted no. It's clearly his favorite by a looooong mile based on what he's said recently.

I too voted no.  The fact that he went back to his trusted putter as soon as he was allowed to after Nike folded up their golf equipment business speaks volumes about his putter choice.

IMHO - He should never have changed to a Nike putter.

voted no here (and on Twitter) - putting is very mental, and primarily based on confidence, why change from one that he likes

I say, it depends.  As long as his putting meets his own expectations, it stays in the bag.  But I don't know that it's so important to him that if the putting falls off, or just isn't where he thinks it should be, that he'd be hesitant to retire it to the trophy case...or at least experiment with something else.

Given only 2 choices in the poll, I'll go with "No" though. When he's struggled in the past, putting hasn't been the issue.

He aims his putter 4° right, which is why he focuses so much on "releasing the toe".

4° is quite a bit, too. From 8' that's 4.5" right of the cup.

Voted no.  Really cannot understand why he switched.  For money??   At that point in his career wouldn't money a non-issue?

I generally agree with this.  However, I went ahead and voted yes in the poll anyway because while I agree that struggling with the putter has never seemed to be an issue for him ... that also held true when he was using a Nike, I think.  His issues were swing and body related.

And to sort of counter what @Ernest Jones and a few others said; If he strikes the ball well and struggles on the green, then why wouldn't he try something else?

He doesn't need the money, but if he was going to wind up playing Taylormade woods anyway, why do something for free when you can get paid to do it? I think it was Warrn Buffet who said that. Or The Joker. I can't remember

I dont see why not. It cant hurt to try new things. But putting is a rhythm thing, IMO. So if the way his old putter is working in his hands feels good, then theres probably no reason to change.

Pshaw, that's nothing. From 15 feet out I was 2.5 FEET out....Lol....no wonder I couldn't make a putt....

I'm guessing no. He used it for so long and took it back in after so many years that he realized it was the putter he wanted to use. If nothing else, it can provide some positive vibes using one that he's used for so long. I don't know if it technically is all that different or if they just make a Nike Cameron copy.

I voted no, too. A putter you like can have a psychological effect, making you more confident on the greens.

I, too, aim 4° right. I guess that's one thing we got.

Get a putter you can aim. You don't have time to practice your "toe release" for two hours every day.
