Hey all,

I feel like there has to be a thread already about this, but I can't seem to find it.  So, if you know, feel free to just direct me there.

I would like to videotape my swing at the range this summer, but I can't find a good way to prop my iphone up at the right spot.   does anyone know of a good apparatus I could buy?  or maybe like some sort of holder I could put on my golf bag?

Do a search for Ram Mounts. They have mounts for all kinds of stuff. I know one guy has a mount for his phone that clamps to golf cart roof post.

i use their products for gps mounts in my boats. Top notch stuff

I'm using this one with my Samsung phone:

https://www.amazon.com/GripTight-GorillaPod-Universal-Smartphone-Smartphones/dp/B009GHYMB6/ref=sr_1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1490295944&sr=1-1&keywords=camera+gorillapod&refinements=p_89%3AJoby

The spring-loaded clamp for the camera/phone comes in two sizes, for larger or smaller phones, or can be unscrewed to use with a camera with a screw mount.  I got mine at Best Buy, so I could check to be sure I got the right size.

I'm cheap and already have a couple tripods, so I made my own with a 2" binder clip. Similar to this...

Edit: BTW, you don't need the solder if you don't have it or want to use it. You can just drill a hole in the binder clip and use the nut on the inside of the clip to attach it to the mounting bolt on the tripod.

Look on Amazon as well - they sell lots of adaptors to clip phones to tripods.  Mine's similar to this:

I have a metal version of this on a small tripod and it is great.  It is stable and I'm able to record vertical or horizontal.

Don't have a pic but I got a 54" tripod with a smartphone holder attachment (adjustable jaw size) for $39 from Best Buy... Works great. Has a level attached.

There are so many clip to tripod holders, I went to B&H and let it decide for me, if has B&H's imprimatur, that's good enough for me. Screw it onto a selfie stick, stick selfie stick into bag when you don't have a tripod. Square Jellyfish (tabletop tripod sold separately).

If you happen to use a push or pull cart that has an umbrella holder... A selfie stick fits in an umbrella holder and of course holds a phone.  In it's fully collapsed state it is at a pretty good height for video taping a swing.

No... duct tape the selfie stick to the driveway stake.  Then just stick it in your bag like an alignment stick, pull it out, stick it in the dirt at the range, and clip your phone into the selfie stick.

And, you can use it as an alignment stick as well...

I got this one:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YJKFJAS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The clamp at the bottom goes on pretty much anything that's mostly flat, but it doesn't have to be a level surface, since the blue "arm" is flexible and can be bent to any angle you need.  The top clamp holds the phone very securely and works with a variety of phone sizes.

This is absolutely the best thing you can get, because the legs are flexible so you can attach it to anything.

I must have got a crappy version of this stand. I could not get it to hold very well on my bag. I was frustrating. I ended up getting a tripod instead.

    • Welcome to TST @Camjr.   We're glad you've joined.
    • Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.
    • Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group. Cheers all,
    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
