According to Josh Scobee, former NFL kicker, club championship competitor did this:

And as usual, timeline is a funny read.

When that guys is one of the guys in your group, is there any other option other than just silence?  I've always sought out a way to improve the situation for my partners that have one of these days, but never found anything other than just leaving them alone.  Which often makes the round less fun for everyone (silent tension), and they too usually feel bad for bringing other people down.

I'd laugh.

So you're having a bad round...it happens. If you're gonna take it that seriously to where to toss your clubs in the lake and ruin the round for everyone else, you deserve to get laughed at.

I've broken a few clubs in my day but I'm pretty much over that.  I've definitely had feelings of wanting to break a club (ahem...driver) more than a couple times but I usually remember it isn't the clubs fault.

Also, as @bones75 said, I hate to be "that guy".  I don't enjoy playing with "that guy".

I once knew a guy who threw his entire bag into a lake! He felt like giving up the game and felt like it would be a clean break. A definitive way to rid himself of this dreaded affliction!

So, in another thread people were saying always to pick up any club on the course and turn it in to the shop? Imagine his surprise whe he sees them by his locker the next morning? :-D

Then you have Roy Mcavoy breaking every club until he finally exclaims" " I think I will use a 7 iron".

Seen this behavior dozens of times, once at the old course in Mission Valley, San Diego, this fellow was methodically bashing his clubs on the edge of a 2 foot rock wall, no outbursts, just purposefully snapping them in half one at a time.

The guy I fear, is the one who will turn his errant club into a helicopter!

In my younger days I had a vicious temper on the course. I would scream and yell, drop F bombs by the bushel, quit in the middle of rounds, I even snapped a wedge over my knee one time. (Although it was a 64° wedge and breaking it was the best thing I ever did for my short game).

Reminds me of a story from maybe 20 years ago. Odyssey putters has just come out and a few guys were having a big money match at the course where I worked. One of the guys 3-putted the 18th green to lose like $500. He was so pissed he threw his new Odyssey putter in the lake in front of the pro shop. We laughed it off, but we didn't realize the cart kid saw him do it. Like 2 hours later here comes our cart kid with a scuba mask, snorkel, swim fins, the whole works. He swims around in that disgusting pond for 30 minutes before triumphantly popping up, putter in hand. The guy actually heard about the kid retrieving his putter and demanded it back, but our pro told him to get lost.

I told this story before. A grandpa was out with his grandson golfing. The grand on was having a bad day. At one point, due to  numerous frustrations, the youngster throws his club in the water hazard.

The grandpa, without a word, picks the youngster's bag up, and throws it into the hazard, clubs and all. Then says "no need to break up a set".

Pretty sure the youngster learned a lesson that day.

Melt downs in a club championship have to be pretty tough.

Any other time, it's a lot easier to either pick up on hole or walk off the course if its bad enough.

Some people have more money than sense.

If a person has that bad a temper maybe golf isnt the sport for them.

Wonder how long a set of clubs can stay in water before the performance is affected? forget lakeballs, lakeclubs...now thats thw way forward :-P

What a weenie, I would have tossed each club into the water individually, Tommy Bolt style, get some hang time. :-P

This is how you toss a club folks.

A few years ago after playing a local course with my son, these were in the parking lot.
I'm guessing someone had a pretty bad day.

I threw a few clubs when I was a teenager (45 years ago), but never enough to damage one much less throw one in the water. Like most here, the club is the least of my problems, getting angry makes things worse, and I'm too cheap to deliberately damage or lose a club... :8)

I think almost everyone has had episodes on the course.

It's just a matter of having expectations and meeting them versus not having any expectations and just going with the flow.
