Many golfers are under the impression that to improve your swing you need to pound balls for hours multiple times a week. We're starting this challenge to help you get better now and change how you think about improving.

For the month of April we challenge you to practice your full swing for 5 minutes at home or at the office every day. If you're up for it, post in this thread. Also feel free to post about your progress, or a video/pic to keep us updated

Practicing properly doesn't require you to hit balls, I regularly practice at home for a few minutes a day and I definitely notice the difference the next time I make a swing on the course/range. It's easier for me to "warm up" and I can change the picture faster. I make sure to focus on one or two pieces and rehearse the motion slowly. It's better to practice a little bit everyday than to practice for 2-3 hours once a week. There is a fitness/strength guru that calls it "greasing the groove" , which basically means Specificity + Frequent Practice = Success.

I'm in. Seeing we are a day ahead down here, do I get extra credit for starting early? :-P

Been doing this for most of the last 2 weeks since it's not been nice enough to hit the course my last few days off. Really been working on the angle of my takeaway/ backswing from a DTL view. Could use a really good slow motion video of an ideal dtl backswing angle and position at the top of the backswing if anyone has a good one. Been watching random videos of pros, but they vary a lot, and I'm not sure what I should be shooting for. I love the idea of the challenge. It is much easier to make swing changes this way when there is no ball flight/contact to pay attention to!

I'm in, my instructor has been encouraging me to practice daily in front of a mirror and doorway for at least 15 minutes a day.

I have a mat in front of my desk that is there day in day out. In my drawer I have things to setup for drills. Hasn't done much for my playing though. I need to train a little harder and live a little cleaner that's my problem atm.

I'm in! I've been doing this every day anyway, so I might as well continue. I don't get to go to the range that often since my membership expired.. Until further notice I will be an indoor practice geek!

Hmm I don't know how I feel about reducing my practice time, but I guess I'm up for the challenge ;-)

In! I know what I'm working on -- my priority piece from my last evolvr lesson is quite clear -- and it's something I can do at home easily. It's okay to have a golf club in my hands during this practice, right? I've also been doing the medicine ball driver thing from LSW at home. Not sure if that qualifies as full swing practice time or not (probably, given where I learned about it). Now to figure out how to do this at work... I do have a private office ...

I swing different clubs without hitting a ball just about every day. I have a couple of clubs right outside the front door. Some days I might do it 3, or 4 four times for <5 minutes. My main purpose is to keep all the muscles, and joints in decent working order. Also, it helps me to keep my swing rhythm where I need it to be when I do show up to hit balls.

Sometimes I will swing one of those Kallassy Swing Magic critters that I picked a while back.

I'm in. I keep an old 7 iron and driver leaning up against the garage near where I park. I typically practice a bit every time I walk by.

    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
    • Day 96 (18 Mar 24) - Continued work with the Divot Board with the GW and hard foam balls.  Focused on small target/small miss…setup to hit target about 30yds out - success if it hit within 6’ circle of target, fail if outside.  Had decent success averaging about 3 out of 4 (hitting in groups of four).
