Well, I'm pleased for Tiger - he earned it - but not looking forward to month(s) of blather about #83...

Should 83 come, is it a bigger deal than this?

I think 83 will come and it I think should be bigger.

That said, since Snead has been caught, the PGA really should re-evaluate some of his wins.  I can see them not wanting to reduce the number prior to being caught, but now it seems like the right thing to do.

I think true sports historians know the truth. I think the fact he ‘ties’ Snead makes it less relevant to change any numbers. Even more so when Tiger gets the 83.

During the awards ceremony Tiger looked like he wanted the guys to shut up so he could go get treatment on his back.  Hopefully it's just tightness after playing and having to stand there for so long.

Actually the media vs. the true historians.  The “Chasing 82 Ad Nauseam” media coverage pretty much dismisses any notion that some of Snead’s victories would not qualify today... regardless of history.

Well...except to true historians. Before today one would say, ‘ Snead has the most official wins of all time.’ And that could be easily argued but the ‘media driven’ people would just say, ‘well the records show Snead has 82.’
Now Tiger has 82. Not even the media can or will say that Snead’s wins are better. So it’s done. And then when Tiger hits 83, it’s done and buried.

Mere mortals aspire to shoot their age. Woods wants to number of wins his age.

I really liked Tiger in this tournament. The whole time, weather delay, darkness...he just chewed his gum and strolled along. And how about his confidence off the tee? Lookin real good.

I don't think it's necessary. Sam was already bitter about his number being reduced to 82 in the first place. It should probably be more in the neighborhood of 75, but we can go down this path with a bunch of the older players. The official numbers for all those guys have been set in stone for long enough that we should leave them alone.

Now for Tiger, that was a heck of a performance. Phenomenal iron game, putting, and course management. Driver swing looked pretty dang good in the 3rd and 4th round as well. I hope he can stay healthy for all of this season. Would be awesome to see him in contention at all 4 majors and the Olympics.

Small limited fields, 5 partner events, 1 where he got credited with a win when it was a 4 way tie and no playoff - things like that.  Nothing to do with quality of fields.  If a consistent criteria is used to decide what counts and what doesn't, Tiger has been well past Snead for years.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

and team events - like the day Wilt Chamberlain and I combined to score 100 points in an NBA game, which was an amazing accomplishment for me because I don't think I was 10 years old yet.

fun to watch Tiger play like that.  Too bad they couldn't do 36 on Sunday - both Tigs and Hideki were playing better and in the zone.

The media milked the entire 82 and Tiger winning hype so much, that the Monday play and win was a dead fish for them - they'd already cashed it all in.  All the followup came up flat.....typical golf channel just doesn't have a clue how to report on golf.
