If you followed the link and read the comments, you will see where the owner of a local driving range and club fitter/builder asked about that.  The health dept and owner apparently exchanged some private messages, but there were no other public comments on that.

There's more shared equipment, though, too: buckets, the range ball machine, the bag stands…

True. My course took those away. They’re spraying baskets then we get them ourselves. Basically the gloved attendants spray everything before and after they’re touched. Of course my range is semi-private and I’m usually the only one here.

We have some golf around here. Received a couple of confusing e-mails from a local course recently. They had announced opening, then a few days ago announced that they had been close by the country board of health. They said all 113 county board had voted to do this. Ohio has 88 counties. So I really don't know what they were referring to.

Then today, I get another e-mail saying they are re-opening. They pled their case, outlining the steps they were taking to engage in contact free business, and the board said OK. Online booking and pay. Just show up, take the first cart in line and go. Go play, and when done unload your clubs and leave the cart at the wash station and walk away.

My brother and cousin live in Columbus.  They have a tee time for Sunday. Everyone gets their own cart.  Cups are raised an inch out of the ground so as to not have to remove the flag.  I wish it was like that here in Michigan......All courses are closed.  Our governor deemed them non-essential.

Worth reading. I wish and hope PA enacts something like this, too.

Thats good of NY especially with their amount of cases, I wish Illinois would do something similar. Maybe not near the hot spots, like Chicago and collar counties but we have counties a hundred miles from the danger areas with no cases but same Chicago rules.

Mass just closed courses again, no reason that I could find given.

Let's take a wild guess at the reason🙂.

All I can say is that if you find a course that is open and get to play, make sure you do it right. I believe that golf can be played safely in this environment. I've played three times in the last two weeks and I think that there was no more risk than me taking a fitness walk.  But one of the courses I played at was not pushing good social distancing practices.  I was astounded at how some guys acted.  I guess I shouldn't have been.  That kind of behavior will ruin it for everyone.

Ok, but only one...

For clarity I was referring to the fact they closed them, allowed them to open, now just closed them again. What did they learn that led to the decision to reverse the earlier stand?

Golf courses are now closed in Washington State indefinitely. *sigh*

Looks like I'll be getting my golf fix on my XBox 1X in The Golf Club 2019. Fortunately I downloaded it when it was free. It's a good game. You can design your own courses. Some people made digital renditions of some famous courses that are pretty good.

Did the Governor just have another press conference?  I'm using a local school soccer field to practice full wedges, with the blessing of the School District, as long as I maintain social distancing.  This morning I distanced myself from my wedge by about 125 yards, fairly tight dispersion near the goal post.  Right stanchion.

I live next to an elementary school with several soccer fields.   I've been hitting wedges but making sure not to hit from the soccer fields.  If somebody shows up at the playground, there is enough room for me to stay at least 50 yards away.

I hit from one spot on the field, and replace my divot.  There is an oval running track that surrounds the field.  This morning I had to pause as a woman walked the track 4 times... in fear of hitting that 1 in a 1000 shank.

I think it was just the letter he wrote several days ago in response to a WA golf alliance thingy. Basically saying we are not essential regardless of the benefits of golf and social distancing. I could see WA opening them if we hit the flatline in cases. Fingers crossed...

    • Day 568, May 23, 2024 Loooooooong day today. Got some shadow work done with an umbrella.
    • Day 148: 5/23/24 Hit balls on the range measuring ball speed for each club. Recently watched a fitting video where the fitter said he targeted 5 mph ball speed increase for each club.  Mine weren’t quite there. 4 and 5 mph were pretty similar except for 1 ball. Big jump for hybrid, bigger jump for 4-hybrid, and huge change for driver. Swung for the fences with driver and hit them all pretty straight at the end of my session. Several at 111 mph, which is above my normal speed. Finished with chipping release 1 with several clubs.  Good session!
    • Birdied 15 at my home course today and made a birdie the other day at a course I don’t usually play. Will update the spreadsheet once I’m home on my computer.
    • Day 70. Played 9 at Grand Niagara. Very very windy day, but I hit the ball well for me. The wind did help me hit my longest drive ever at 282y and I did make a birdie on a par 5.
    • So, the struggle right now with the driver is that I’m dipping down with the body, shallowing wrongly.  When I try to get my arms down, I end up not turning much at all. End up hitting the sweeping overdraws or if I dip with the body then I’ll hit massive pushes. I’m trying to turn better with the body and also get the arms down at the same time. Easier with the irons than it does the driver. also, here’s an image when you almost entirely missed the ball. 🤣🤣🤣
