First round of the year and I made three birdies at an "away" course. It's one of the two courses I play most during the year, but I play the other one more often so I'll call that my home course. Holes #9, 12, and 15 marked off on the composite list.

First round of the year?!

You need to get down here again buddy!

I just gotta stay out of the shit, because that keeps me from completing silly challenges like this.

On the bright side. I think that I’ve figured out the 7th hole so it’ll be a matter of time before I birdie the 7th.

My homecourse hasn't opened yet, but I managed to get a good birdie on a nabour course yesterday.

Hole 9/18 on this short par 34 9-hole course is a 275 yard par 4, dogleg left. Hit a 5 iron into the wind and landed it in the rough just outside the fairway on the right with 60 yards left to the pin. Hit the 60° approach a little hard and landed it long on the upper level of an elevated 2 level green with the flag placed on the lower plateau. Sunk the 24 feet put for a nice 3 to finish off the round with a big smile.

In the bag: Callaway Mavrik SZ 10,5 driver (X stiff), Cobra King 4 wood (Stiff, 2006 model), Callaway Mavrik irons 4 - P+A (stiff), Cobra King Pur wedges 52, 56 and 60 (stiff) and Odessey white steel putter.  Very happy with the set and the gapping.

Pick off 3 birdies on an away course Weds.

Not sure how much I'll be playing the home course this year. Working from home permanently now so the golf league wont be playing there every week.

I played an easy course today (68.9/118, 5800 yards) and took advantage with three birdies (4, 14, and 16).  It counts! 🙂

Absolutely it counts. Well done - I’ve never had three in one round. Two in a round three times, but never three!

Knocked off two more holes today (7 and 15) on the composite. 6 birdies in 4 rounds is excellent...especially with how poorly I’ve been hitting my driver recently.

So 2 more birdies Saturday. I finally got the easy #1 par 5. Playing downwind and firm I smoked a drive on the 505 yard hole leaving 220 to the flag. Hit the new U500 3 iron into the back bunker (this club is unreal). With a slight downhill lie and about 15 yards, I got it to 10 feet and made the putt. Additionally, I birdie #11 which played 140 and put a 9 iron to 8 feet. It doesn't help the count as it was the second time I have birdied the hole.

Now for the entertainment and the tale of elusive #16 which has been the hardest hole for me to birdie. Feeling frisky I am thinking peel a drive off the right hand bunker with a baby draw. I line up and block it OB.  Retee and I hit the baby draw and hit the 9 iron on the green. I snake one in from 25 feet that breaks 8 feet for the bogey or OB birdie.  It was a great recovery, but no birdie!

I've been so dang busy, I didn't even notice We had started a new Birdie Challenge until today. I've only been playing 3-4 times a month so far in 2021, but I've been able to knock out all but three holes after looking back at the rounds I kept stats on. I am pretty sure I have birdied #4 as well, but since I don't have statistical proof I'll leave it blank for now. I also have eagles on five different holes so far because I have had two multiple eagle rounds. I've been playing really well.

I managed another birdie on the sixth hole after a 12-footer, which puts me at 5/18 for the year. Not a bad start!

Got lucky draining a 30 footer today for a birdie on 5, despite the recently punched and sanded greens. That same hole for the back nine, as #14, is going to be tough so I'm glad to get it out of the way once at least. It's a 190 yard at 3 with a smaller green than I'd like, so it usually takes a very nice (or lucky) first shot to birdie.

I had 8, yeah EIGHT birdie putts today. The longest was 15 feet, the shortest was about 6 feet. I didn't drain a single one. God Bless America! I should have been able to knock down at least one or two.

Funny thing, I had two putts hit the flag stick and not drop. We're still playing with the pool noodles in the cup. Both times I hit the stick, the couple I was playing with said "That counts, that counts." ... "Nice birdie". I said thanks but tapped in and carded the par anyway.

Funny thing, none of my putts were horrendous... but none of them fell.

Not that it matters, but I did make a really cool short pitch in for par.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Wow. Marathon day of golf for you, then? What'd you play… 72 holes? 90? 😉

Late to post, but... I managed a par on the 18th on Sunday.  Not a birdie, but now I've birdied or parred every hole on the course! 🙂  👍

This was a decent week: I added one birdie to the home course sheet and one to the away courses (and had another duplicate there).

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
