A well known (female) golf blogger replied to one of my posts on another social network about this topic. I thought it was interesting so here it is:

"Nowadays + Will Walsh , a publication like Golf Digest needs to seek readership beyond "avid golfers and golf purists"That market just isn't large enough to sustain "a fully integrated media and marketing company operating across a multitude of platforms" ... which is what GD is these days.

Be it Paulina Gretzky or Kate Upton...Justin Timberlake or Morgan Freeman, Golf Digest cover models need to be able to attract the more casual fans as well as the purists.  And "golf-connected celebrities" are probably more likely to do that than, say, Sean Foley or Hunter Mahan or... David Feherty with his pants down. (~_*)"

You don't have to talk to someone to have a pretty good idea, particularly when they write so much themselves on Instagram, Twitter, etc.

P.S. To pass judgment is to say whether it's right or wrong. I don't think many people are doing that. It's not really passing judgment to say "I don't find her attractive." It's just stating an opinion.

Is she all about the selfies? :-$

But you do define her intelligence in the first comment but back off in the next? I don't follow her, but don't see much of a difference in her and half the other gals her age who don't have to worry about a college education or finding a career. I don't mean this in a spiteful way...in a brief look at the images she has posted of herself she seems to be "living life large." I know a lot of us would if we could.

I would. I don't think she's a particularly respectable or intelligent type of gal.

No doubt she's known as a party girl, it's not an assumption, she earned it. Which is really the only thing I find strange about it. When people think fitness I would assume she's not the first thought in their heads.

No, I'm standing by the evidence that she's not particularly intelligent.

Move along, please. I get to have my opinion, and I've told you why I've formed that opinion.

I find it kinda funny that they're promoting the importance of golf fitness by putting someone on the cover that can't break 120.
Oh come on now, you don't think she's attractive? If she was in your bed, I bet you wouldn't kick her out of it? LOL
Having her in your bed and marrying her are two different things ;-)

She is sexy in a skanky sort of way.   She has a pretty face and I think she has a good (though not great) body.....    Would I marry her?   Most likely not.   I suspect she would be much like a race horse..   Fun to ride but horribly expensive to maintain..

I don't have a problem with Golf Digest & Paulina as an example of someone who is physically fit.  I do believe the magazine would have been better served to have selected an LPGA pro for the cover as there are several that  are just as fit and probably look just as good in their workout attire.

Case in point:

And that's just from Twitter, without processing, Photoshop, etc.

I would have to agree on this point.

Skankilicious!

And I'm sorry, but does anyone else think that Golf Digest editor-in-chief Jerry Tarde must have had no fun at all in high school? Thanks a lot Mom and Dad.

Just curious... To those passing judgement on Pauline's personality, and whether or not she is intelligent, respectful, or whatever... How much time have you spent with her to actually have a clue?

Her public statements can give some indication, but the argument is primarily that I don't know her well enough to consider her a potential partner based on her personality. She might be perfect for all I know, but since I don't know her, I can't really tell. This thread is primarily pointing out that she's appeared on the front cover of a magazine, wearing little clothes. They wouldn't put her there if she wasn't good looking and had an attractive body. But her looks doesn't mean much to me, as I don't know what she's like.

I happen to agree with the opinion of the LPGA and its players regarding the use of Paulina. There are better choices including women pro golfers that could have been used. And I am not talking about silicone Sonders either.

Agree. How about Anna Rawson?

Nothing personal against Ms. Gretzky, but I think it was poor judgment of Jerry Tarde to put her on the cover - especially in a cheesecake pose.

Not that I'm surprised. This is the same Golf Digest that told us we need to trade in any of our golf clubs which are more than two years old.

Paulina's GD cover could become a major headache for Dustin Johnson if the happy couple ends up on the hit-list of National Enquirer-style "journalists."

I don't like Gold Digest's decision on the picture.   But, I don't think it is much different than SI's swimsuit edition cover.

    • I have a putting mat in my office. It's 9 feet long almost 4 feet wide. I've drawn a line down it in order to practice hitting my line and stuff. Works fine for what it is.  While I'm not a fan of lining up a line on my golfball for every putt. I think for practice sessions it can have a lot of value.  To me this product makes sense. This is the first time I've seen it. It showed up as an add on the right side of the TST webpage. What do you all think? PuttAIM Laser Training Aid Get ready to dominate the greens like never before. PuttAIM Golf is a golf putting aid that uses laser technology to help you improve your game. This device works to ensure your putts are aligned properly and on track...
    • Of course. I've used different words to start, but like 90-95% of the time it's been this one. And I'm unlikely to switch now.

    • Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.
