McIlroy is a complete mess right now. Not sure if it's injuries or personal life or new clubs or just a combo of stuff but he looks bad.

I think it's because his injuries have forced him not to practice as much. He's always been a streaky player, and I think this probably exacerbated that. It was less than a year ago he was winning the FedEx Cup and being the best player at the Ryder Cup not named Patrick Reed. He'll be fine.

He's certainly on a consistent streak this season.

Honestly I think he's Tiger 10 years early. Tiger made it into his mid 30s before his body fully rebelled, Rory only made it to his mid 20s. He's done IMO.

Bold statement.

I'd bet that he'll work through things and be extremely competitive again.  As @DeadMan said, he's been streaky player and played some really good golf less than a year ago.

Fairways and Greens.

I'm sure I'll get some heat for this, but I'm starting to believe Rory has lost his passion for playing competitive golf. It seems in  his interviews he's just appeasing the sponsors and fans but if he really had his choice he'd just go hang out with his wife, bros, and do whatever. With the money these days these young talents win a few tournaments or maybe just a major, endorsements, then they're set for life...all while in their 20's. I certainly don't blame them. If I, after all the years of hard work I did to become a physician, could make a few million in just a few years I'd retire immediately and do something else (play golf). I mean, so quickly for these ultra talented young guns they're vastly rewarded to where the necessity to win becomes obsolete. I can't help but think that if something awful happened and Rory lost his entire fortune....we'd see him winning again real quickly. I dunno ...just a ramble I guess.

I go away from the TV for a few hours when Kuchar is -4 thru 6.   I come back and he's only -5 for the day.   I must be his good luck charm.  ;-) I'll stayed glued to the TV..   This is some good golf, I'm enjoying watching.

I don't know what his motivation is like. And I'll never fault anyone if they are or aren't motivated. A guy like Rory can be as good as he wants, but it's his own personal choice. Nobody can tell him how much he can or can't work at it. I'm sure the injuries are a factor, and possibly hitting the weights could be the reason for him and Jason Day's recent injury battles. I do think he'll bounce back and win a couple more majors, though. He's still got loads of talent.

I've said this for some time and I stick to it....of the top players that the media tries to hype up as the next great one, I still say Jordan Spieth has the potential to be the best of this current generation. He has the passion and drive right now, his swing is one that is built for longevity sorta like Jack's was. He's not a workout freak like some of the other top players. And he's got good people around him. I think Spieth is going to win a lot of majors. He's not going to win as many as Tiger or Jack, but he's going to win quite a few. He's got some growing up and maturing to do, but he'll do that. He's only 23, I believe. That's just my two cents.

Charlie Hoffman has my vote as current best weekday player at majors.  :-D We Las Vegans have too much partying to do on the weekends anyway.

If his body isn't done, I think you're probably right. But I'm starting to think his body is almost done and won't allow him to practice enough anymore.

My $0.02 is that golfers and golf fans need to recalibrate their expectations for longevity in the game. IMO more and more golfers are training and practicing like athletes....which is great and all, but if they want to be athletes, then they are also going to have the career longevity that other athletes have which is usually about 30 years old +/- the body starts breaking down. Tiger was an athlete in the truest sense and his body began to really fail in his early 30s....Rory has tried to mimmick some of that but lacks as much physicality/durability as Tiger and I think his body is now rebelling in his late 20s.

He is the new Mechanic. He used to always make runs on thursday and friday. Rory finished off strong. Forums always amuse me with the quick hyperboles. Someone is shooting 90 today, this guy is done, the course is going to play over par for the week, etc.....

I was going to ask what was Rahm's two stroke penalty for but they are saying he caused his ball to move on 17.

McIlroy's two halves look like mine a lot of the times (not the actual score, but the discrepancies).  Good for him to recover from that disaster of the front nine.

But in the Open you can play waist high missiles... Arnie up in heaven would tell you in those conditions, keep it low. The thing with Arnie is when he birdied 4 of the first 6 in '61 tbe conditions were similar to those forecast tomorrow.

I see a birdie for him at that hole. Did he get a penalty at all?

    • Welcome to TST @Camjr.   We're glad you've joined.
    • Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.
    • Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group. Cheers all,
    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
