A lot of what you just stated as observations, issues, etc aren't unique to this LIV tournament, they exist on the PGA Tour as well.

Sure, but after watching the promo, LIV made it seem like their product was different, and at least initially it doesn’t live up to their own hype.

It's hard for me to disagree with this tweet. I don't think the PGA Tour will react swiftly enough or in the appropriate manner, even if they did. Kyle Robbins posted an article last night about the split of open wheeled racing in the US, and how its fracture into two seperate leagues was essentially the death knell for the sports popularity.

Professional golf does not have the necessary fan base to support this level of fracturing. It's going to be a long, slow bleed, or maybe not that slow, I don't know. This whole enterprise is vastly, deeply disappointing.

No different than the beginning of Round 1 on any average PGA Tour tournament. I doubt very many people will consider the first few holes of the RBC Canadian Open this week as "exciting golf"

I will start watching the Golf Channel Wedensday evening only if it is a big event. Then tune in a little on Thursday and Friday (less than 1/2 hr) to keep up with it. If it is not a big event I just limit it to the weekend after I play golf.

It helps me relax and I can get a good, deep power nap going. Then an obnoxious commercial soundtrack will wake me up. Just like in college hoops where you can tune into the last few minutes and not miss much, with the PGA you can just tune in Sunday afternoon and not miss too much.

Most people cannot fathom the thought of watching golf on TV.

I watched for about 10 minutes - youtube said there were 34k people watching which doesn't seem like a lot.

It’s not. Many video game /entertainment streamers get that many and more, every day.

It seems like many people that support LIV are only doing so in the hopes that it changes the PGA Tour. The jabs have been thrown. We’ll see how the current Tour players react to the threat.

It's up to 84k watching now. Still not a lot all things considered

I have two questions now that the suspensions are official.  Which player on the list are you most pleased to see go, and why did you choose Ian Poulter?

Also how am I just now realizing that LIV is the score you'd get if you birdie every hole on a par-72 course?

Whenever I watch golf on TV it makes me want to get up, go out and play golf.  Unless I'm watching a re-run after dark.

A chunk of that viewership is because it's a novelty.  Where were you when LIV played the first day of their first tournament.

I watched for about an hour today. If it wasn’t DJ,Phil I would not have known this was a pro tournament or exhibition whatever they are calling it. Was not as groundbreaking as they are saying.

Ah, I don't think I remembered that detail.  I guess they decided the MDF rule was so popular, they'd make sure everyone MDFs.  ;-)

So many golf shots. The sound is annoying when the score graphic appears.

The Tour is screwed.

OK, this comment got me to check it out.

For all of 15 seconds.

Yeah, it's annoying.

Team Slytherin is doing well. The S looks like a snake.

One can hope that the PGA Tour can learn a thing or two about broadcasting golf from this. There hasn't exactly been a lot of innovation there recently.

    • Going to a Friendsgiving tomorrow and I am bringing a no-bake cheesecake. I make the crust too big, but I think it turned out good. The filling is really good.
    • Sure, but how was your alignment? 🙂 Day 53 - 2024-11-22 Mirror work after getting back home. Wife is a superstar for her career/job/whatever.
    • I would say your back nine is the second nine you play that day. It's part of what makes getting some of those holes tougher. Or, if 18 holes are played pretty often, out of A, B, and C, and you often play A and C, A is the front and C is the back, regardless of the order you play them in. That way not birdieing C #7 isn't overcome by birdieing the easier A #7 on a day you played it C-A instead of A-C. But, at the end of the day, nobody really cares except yourself.
    • Day 128: played 9. Nice little even 9, with 2 birdies and 2 bogeys.
    • @DeadMan, I think your approach makes sense. As @dennyjones said, consistency is the key.
