I don't know why there are push cart haters. Check out the sweet carts the kids used at NCAA Nationals this year, from Sun Mountain:

And the kicker was… the boys never felt better after 1, 2, 3, or 4 rounds walking 18 holes. It improved their performance, stamina, strength at the end of the round, etc.

I've never disliked carts. I just prefer the extra exercise I get from carrying right now. Besides, the nice carts are just too expensive for now when I still have a few clubs I need to buy.

Those are nice looking carts, @iacas. I'm going to have to upgrade to a push cart one day.

You don't really get much extra exercise carrying the bag over pushing it.

Push carts are great, I didn't realize this was something that bothered anyone else. I never really minded the cheap two-wheeler I'd been using the last several years, but my wife bought me a really nice three-wheeler for this past Christmas (Caddytek EZ-Fold) and I love it. It has almost paid for itself by reducing cart fees already this season.

If I were to carry, I'd have to lighten the load considerably and I'd still be sore after 18. I have all the respect in the world for those who can do it.

I had no idea that there were push-cart haters.  I think if somebody gave me s**t for not carrying I'd be so confused I would just think they were joking.

Heck, everyone at the courses where I live seems to ride in carts anyway, so I think there's a certain solidarity among us (rare) walkers, regardless of how we get around.

When I saw this thread pop up, I thought that the hate was emanating from the riders! Well, leave it to the zealots to pump the hate! I walked and carried for many years, but after a while my knees started telling me they didn't like that anymore! So, I switched to a pull cart, push carts being years in the future.

I agree. Carrying causes issues with my SI joint. Pushing a cart up a hill is plenty of exercise. I talked some of my retired buddies into getting a cart and they are happy they did it.

I don't think I've ever gotten any flack over my push cart.

In fact the only time I remember hearing the suggestion was a Golf Digest article about Trump not allowing them on his New York City course. Some nonsense about him not liking the look and preferring they used caddies.

Don't think I've met any push cart haters, except greens keepers who still can't give me a logical reason why the push cart can't go in between a sand trap and the green.

The Sun Mountain Reflex cart is awesome.

I bet Trump gets a part of every caddie's fee at all of his courses, of course he prefer them.  I wonder if he allows them at his Scotland and Ireland courses, trolleys are pretty traditional there.

I did not know there was such a person that hated push carts, and I assume hated those who use them too.

When I first read the topic title I laughed. In all my years using a trolley, I have never heard even a small peep about some folks not liking trollies.

I used a 2 wheel  pull trolley before I switched to a pusher. Before those, I carried. In between all of those I would ride sometimes.

I just prefer walking courses when ever possible. My main bag is a staff size bag, so a trolley is the way for me to go. My bag probably weighs in at 40 lbs +/-. Of course there have also been times I carried that critter for 18 holes.

If you have a modestly stocked bag (clubs, a drink, towel, and a few balls) then carrying versus pushing/pulling is pretty marginal when it comes to exercise.

If you have joint/muscle problems then there is an obvious preference to pushing/pulling.

The guys who think they're more macho carrying...? Please. I'm 28, in excellent shape, and I use a push cart that I freaking love.

I would carry every now and then except for (to my first point) I have a lot of stuff I like to carry in my bag on a regular basis. 32-oz drink, granola bars, 2 towels, extra large phone battery since I use a gps app for score keeping/distances, lots of balls (in case I'm having a pretty poor day or a particularly difficult course), winter gear (although I just took all of that out yesterday since it's hot as blazes in NC now), rain gear, extra gloves, laser rangefinder, score book, sunscreen, bandaids, man I could keep going... I like having all that stuff though :) That's why I don't carry. It would kill my shoulders.

I am there to play golf not get a leg workout. That would be like saying I like having a extra 20 lbs of fat on me so get my leg muscles worked more. I am all for walking but I found that the only thing that comes from carrying a golf bag is fatigue.......and in some people's cases, self gratification.

I love my cart although occasionally I get this weird feeling like I look like I am pushing a shopping cart.

Honestly, until I saw this thread, I never thought there was an issue in folks' minds. As we say on the AT, HYOH - Hike Your Own Hike.  When I started playing again last summer, it didn't take me long to go ahead and get a trolley again. If only because I didn't want to buy to buy a new bag (my son and I found RealTree camo cart bags at BPS a few years back on a roadtrip) and I much rather walk than ride. When I was playing in the 90s, I had committed to the USGA's program to encourage players to walk the course.

When I watched the NCAA women's finals the other night, I was pleased to see they were using trolleys. I think trolleys represent a great compromise for players that want to walk, but not carry. Playing yesterday afternoon when the humid 90s finally came back to central Virginia, I was certainly glad to be pushing my clubs around instead of carrying.

Really, because to me it equates more along the lines of when people wear a weighted vest or ankle weights when they go for a walk or run to increase the benefits of their workout. I've yet to see any negative impact on my round because I'm carrying my bag. I play with people who use carts all the time, I don't think anything is wrong with them using a cart. I don't get self gratification from carrying either, I just do it when I feel like walking. Also it's one less thing to mess with when I get to the course and before I leave. Besides, as I said, the nice carts like the ones Erik posted are much more expensive than I'm willing to pay when I at least one or two more clubs to get fit for.
