I grabbed my putter and a few balls and headed to the local muni. There was a lot people out playing, but the greens were very shaggy. Another reason to be depressed. Even though it is finally warm enough to play, the course is horrid.

I did some putting outdoors on Saturday and the greens were shaggy as well. Super bumpy, the balls were zig zagging all over the place, so I used that as my excuse as to why I missed so many 5 and 6 footers in practice

Sounds good. I’ll go with the same excuse, err, reason.

This snow just in time for the weekend is depressing.  Now we even have a cold spell.  No thawing out until at least two weeks.  Oh well.  I get to watch Honda Classic at least.  I hope Tiger makes it to the weekend to make it worth awhile to watch.

BS. Slower greens are easier to putt ;-):-P

I agree.

Probably played the same horrid course that @CarlSpackler was talking about in his above post on Sunday. Putting was about the only thing I did half decent.

It's almost 70 out and I can't do any golf stuff because I have a migraine. How depressing.

Hope you feel better.

It is nice here too, but the ground is too soggy for doing anything. I have a new net setup in the works to use my sloped driveway and garage to hit into instead of the backyard. The net should arrive in time for the weekend.

I was being facetious. Slow greens suck. Slow greens that haven't been mowed suck worse.

Thanks, I'm much better today, though there is still a minor headache.

I get them, it runs in the family. Excedrin is my friend.

I'm fortunate that I have a concrete patio to hit off of. It chews up the bottom of my net though. Don't forget to share pictures :-)

Just curious, what sort of winter sports do you guys play when it's too cold for golf? I've struggled to find something as addictive. Plus it seems like most winter sports either A. require a consistent group of people to play and practice with or B. are sports like snowboarding or ski'ing which aren't really "games" per-se.

I've been trying badminton and bowling, but I just am not falling in love with them like I did with golf. :-\

Winter sports are WAY too likely to interfere with early spring golf. Broken finger? busted knee? twisted elbow? No thank you.

Seriously though, I used to play a lot of squash, which I loved, but once I got to around 40, I started getting injured more so stopped. I just stay in shape over the winter by going to the gym a lot.

I stay in shape by going to the bar a lot.  Plus I hit the range a lot and hit off of semi-frozen mats, but it keeps the swing in shape for that first day when the sun is shining and the course thaws out.

If I sip my cocktail with my right hand I make sure to keep my right elbow tucked... no flying elbows.  Can get you into a fight if you're sitting at the bar next to others.  If I sip with my left hand I try to keep the left arm straight... though I need to use a looooong straw.

I snowboard, but that is more expensive than golf at a typical muni course.  Mostly, I just do what I always do, minus golf, that is hit the gym every morning.

On to the topic... looks like no golf for at least two weeks due to frozen tundra.

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
    • I have been carrying a 7 wood more often this year.  It’s especially handy if you have a downhill lie to an uphill green.  It’s also handy if the rough on the course is deep.
