I don't know what the DD limit is where you live, but in England it is very low, and in Scotland almost non existent. I have always been a great advocate that it should be increased, as the amount of deaths it causes is tiny, and most of those are actually the people who do it. In fact deaths caused by sober drivers driving badly are about 100 times more. Ask yourself this, would you rather sit next to a 17 year old who is sober, or a 40 year old who is a pint over the limit, because statistically the 17 year old is a far bigger risk. In fact, tests show that using a non hands free phone whilst driving impairs your judgement more than alcohol.

Anyway, it's the season to be jolly and enjoy ourselves, so I think the law should allow us to drink approximately twice what we can at the moment for two weeks before and after Crristmas. What do you think

US DUI / DWI limits basically allow for 1 drink per hour, I have no idea how that compares to where you live.  I would not want the limits increased for the holidays, I'd actually like to see them lowered to reduce the number of tragedies during the holidays.

In the US you don't typically get pulled over unless you're driving erratically, in which case you're either a lousy driver or beyond a "pint" over the legal limits.  In either case I don't want you on the roads with my family.

Hell no.  I don't care if you drink yourself into a coma, but if you're conscious take a damn cab home.  If there are no cabs in your area, drink responsibly or don't drink at all.

this is a dumb thread. The rate at which one metabolizes alcohol does not change because it's a holiday.

This is an odd question.  Do you really think that is a good idea?  More deaths for the holidays?

I say leave as is and make sure when drinking you have a DD who stays sober to get the drunk friends home.

Where in the UK do you live? Please, be jolly, enjoy yourself, and then get the tube / a bus / a taxi home. If you live in the middle of nowhere and there's simply no public transit, then go no further than the local pub, or stay in your living room and get shitfaced there.

The 17 year old and the hands-free cellphone using driver are separate issues. Graduated driving privileges work best for young drivers, other types of distracted driving need to be regulated - neither of them exonerate the pissed-up 40 year old at the wheel of a car, sorry.

Give me an autonomous car over this, any day.

Because it's better to be killed by a drunk during the holidays, than some other time of the year?  :-\

The thread seems to have been started to solely intended to get a rise. But reverse psychology works too, so thanks for bringing awareness/reminder to holiday drinking in a bass ackwards way!

IMHO, this is nothing but trolling.  But as @GolfLug has suggested, we can use this trolling for a better use.

I will say this, just because the rate of death due to drunk driver is allegedly lower than those due to 17 year old drivers (which I highly doubt) does not make it anymore reasonable.

One death by a drunk driver is one too many.

I also agree with others that this just more pathetic trolling from a poster who seems to enjoy coming out from under the bridge every so often.

There are simply too many factors at play, strength of alcohol, what you've eaten, your age, tiredness, medication,

when I was younger I got pulled after having 3 pints and driving because I felt no different to when I entered the pub and i'm quite a reasonable guy, I blew quite under the limit and I used the 3 pints as my limit for a while after,.......it wasnt until a few years later I had drank 2 pints and got randomly pulled again and I blew just over, again however i felt no different to normal, by sheer luck at the retest in the station the time was sufficient that I blew under so got away with it.

Now 10 years on I can feel after 1 drink that I probably shouldnt get behind the wheel, not atleast until ive eaten something, had a few soft drinks and just mellowed out, so its rare I will have anything and drive. i attribute that too age, a slower metabolism and possibly more common sense, maybe my drinks are stronger? who knows, but i know it aint worth the risk of putting others at risk,....Whilst i would be annoyed at losing my license, it would be inconvenient for sure, i couldnt live with myself if I killed someone because i didnt pay attention for a split second that I would of done ordinarily with no alcohol in my system

Perfect time to bring up that with so many ways not to drive and Uber being a game changer for people living in the burbs etc. There is just absolutely no reason to drink and drive. Take a cab or take Uber.

In principle there is an amount at which people generally become dangerous. That's where that legal limit ought to be 365 days a year.

In practice, I think there has been a certain amount of politicking and certain efforts to generate revenue that have made some of these limits lower than they ought to be. The Feds do fund local police based partially on DUI arrests. Ohio's currently at .008.
