Farmer's Insurance for me.

When I see that first Farmers' Insurance commercial of the year, that's when I know the season's started.

We are farmers. Bum bah bum bum bum bum bum.

I put the Safeway Open since it's the actual first tournament and I'll at least look at the results. That being said, I start paying a lot more attention come the Career Builder Challenge in January (mostly because it's held 3 miles from my house).

I used to get so excited for Kapalua and the Sony. Now ... ehhhh.

Sony is dull. I watch Kapalua more for the scenery. It is a spectacularly beautiful course IMO.

Here's a bit of a contrarian answer.

To me, the season of PGA golf doesn't really matter one iota. Professional golf is simply isolated events- the majors are obviously the big ones.

But I don't really care how the FedEx points stack up, or how the formula for OWGR evaluates the #1 player as being mathematically 0.35 points per event better than the #2- or how any of that turns out at the end of the season. Not like other sports, where a season ends in a league winner and a playoff winner.

It's just isolated events. Plus a break for our winter, with minor events in warmer, exotic locations.

I don't get excited for a season to start, and don't really care how a season ends. It boils down to each event, and I get excited that it's time for each event. That there is a rollover from events counting for one season, and now those minor events count for a different season. Meh. Bring on the good events, and let's watch the best players duke it out in those. That's the golf "season" for me.

Today - and it runs through the Tour Championship. The rest is just the silly season.
I do look at Ryder Cup/President Cup team qualifiers and the OWGR (although I have a couple of technical issues with some of their points allocations); mainly I pay attention to who is moving up - like Alex Noren who went from 96 to 9 in 2016 (you can move up much faster than you can move down).

So the 2017-18 PGA tour season starts this week with the Safeway Open in Napa, CA.

But when do you start paying attention to the PGA tour, or start watching events on TV.
For me, fall is mainly football and I really start paying attention to the golf world with the Tournament of Champions. Which also coincides with me not going outside to play golf for the winter.

It seems to me that we just had a thread about this, but I can't find it, so I'll just repeat my answer.  The season starts with the first round of the season.  The Safeway.

I voted 'Other'. I mean, it never really ends for me. Not PGA only (Safeway) but I'm looking for golf on TV constantly.

The Masters for me, though I'll still tune in here and there and watch for a little while in the meantime.  But it wont occupy my Sunday afternoon either.

Best Score 2017:  82 (Traditions at the Glen, Par 70)

Favorite Course - Conklin Players Club (Par 72) - Best Score 86

About two weeks before The Masters. Videos via Twitter are enough for me.

I voted the Tournament of Champions in Hawaii. The tournaments seem to move steadily eastward after this, to San Diego, Palm Springs area, Phoenix, and so on into the Southeastern US.

Hawaii just seems like a natural starting point for the season. But full disclosure, I've only been watching golf a few years now, so I don't have a great sense for it.

I typically don't start paying attention to the PGA tour until the florida swing. I sort of check out after the British Open.

I won't actively seek watch golf on TV until the Masters Tournament. I'll put it on here and there, but I have the MLB  postseason, the start of the NHL season, and NFL season to occupy me for a while.

Last year you missed 3 wins by Justin Thomas, 3 by Dustin Johnson, 2 by Hideki Matsuyama, and 1 each by Jon Rahm and Jordon Spieth.

Just sayin'...

I saw bits of video of those tournaments on social media. That's plenty enough for me. Regular season broadcasts are laden with ads and junk not worth it.

I'm sure I'll watch some golf this Fall but typically I don't pay much attention again until sometime around Torrey or Phoenix.
