Tiger's "Done"ness

91 members have voted

  1. 1. How "done" is Tiger Woods? (Yes, you're predicting something, and we can all be wrong.)

    • He'll never make a cut in a regular PGA Tour event/major again. Or worse.
      15
    • He'll play a few rounds, make a few cuts, but never win again.
      57
    • He'll recover well enough to win a few events here and there in the next decade.
      16
    • He'll return to something stronger than the choice above.

Curious to see what y'all think. I'm leaning toward picking the second option, but a small part of me wants to vote for the two beside it (higher and lower).

Yes, it's predictive. Who knows? We're not medical doctors (most of us, anyway), and even those of us who are have no insight into his specific medical situation.

Just, as they say, "taking the temperature of the room."

My best pure guess is #2.  When he has back spasms after a really long layoff, I wonder whether he'll ever really get back to being competitive.  I think if he actually does get healthy enough to practice and play heavily, he may contend regularly for a while, so I kind of think #3 is less likely than #4.  But I have a hard time believing that he'll ever be physically capable consistently again.

I'm getting a sinking feeling that this latest setback may be his last.  His body is just broken down and failing him.  You can't compete with the guys on today's tour with a wrenched back and all the other maladies Tiger comes down with every other week.

My take?  He's done.

Picked option #2. Barring some miraculous medical procedure his condition seems to touch and go to get his game into winning form.

I held the hope that Tiger would return to some semblance of his former self until this latest setback.  If an entire year of rehab is insufficient...it's over.  Thanks for the memories.

If I had to make a bet, based on one of the choices listed, then I'd have to take A - because until I see him play and make a cut then I'm skeptical.

I'd feel good about the bet based on what I read at ESPN

  Quote

He had his first surgery, called a microdiscectomy, on March 31, 2014. He came back in June of that year and played just five events. Then Woods played 11 times in 2015 before two more surgeries -- the first in September was another microdiscectomy; no details have been given about the second surgery in October of that year.

The only event he played in 2016 was at the Hero, and then there have been the two tournaments this year. In all, Woods has played 19 times since his first surgery, with seven missed cuts and three withdrawals. His best finish was a tie for 10th at the 2015 Wyndham Championship.

I don't expect him to make a cut again.  I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't finish a round again.

Probably 2.  I find it hard to believe that if, and it's a big if, he plays at all, he couldn't scrape by making a cut or two.  That's a pretty low bar to set.

I think it's also unlikely that he'll ever have a really bad first round, and stick around to complete the second round.

dunno...I could help but notice the commentator at the Farmers concerning his chip.

I went with the third option. I just think that when/if he's able to start making cuts he's good enough to win. He may not ever win any tournaments of note, but it's possible he could win a few of the smaller/weaker events.

To borrow a phrase from a different Tiger. That Tiger is done like dinner.

Since none of you know. It's something Tiger Williams said of the Pittsburgh Penguins during a playoff series in 1977. "Them Penguins are done like dinner".

From what I've read, which is not much, his mental fortitude, internal drive, etc. are just off the charts. I think he'll win again because it's his entire identity, he must. Win or die trying.

I picked #2 with a hope of #3. They were talking about this on the PGA Network the other night. It probably wasn't a good idea to schedule 4 events in 5 weeks with a 17 hour plane ride in between after not playing for over a year.

Hopefully he can get past this spasm and come back slowly.

Interesting how things have turned since the prediction thread.  I went with #2.  I just don't see him ever really being healthy enough and play enough to be very competitive again.

I went with the 3rd choice. As for "how done" is he? I say he is well past "medium rare",  and getting really close to "well done". He's still quite a ways from "burnt". :-P

    • Day 24: 5/15/25 Chipping on indoor carpet and some weight shift work.
    • Day 44 - Hit some wedges with the intention of working on my 100-yard shot, but instead worked the face a bit. Intentionally trying to hit the toe, heel, and center of the face. I definitely have a heel bias, but focusing on turning my body helped to get things in the center.
    • I think for this, I need to work on my weight transfer. I can feel my self looking up early and falling back slightly. So, I am hitting them a bit fat right now. I need to stay on my left side better or get to my left side better. Kind of like old pattern stuff.  Yep, I was a bit worried about the driver since we didn't get to it. First drive was a push draw because I moved the ball back a bit because there is no range to warm up and I wanted to make sure contact was good. I hit it great, just pushed it slightly. I was like, OK, this will work. I moved the ball back to the normal position and the next 4 out of 5 holes I used a driver was just the ball at most 10 yards off my target line. 😃
    • Sounds good for the full swing stuff!
    • Didn’t score the best, but probably the best I’ve done implementing the swing feels on the course.  Preshot routine - make one practice swing hands down only hitting  the ground like 3 ft behind the ball. Make a 2nd practice swing where I add a bit of turn back in.  Set up and make a swing with those feels. Driver - A stripe show. Just laser beams at my target. Like under 10 yards of curve. Irons - pretty solid. Contact was flush. Just slight pull draws. Just need a bit of face control. It’s close. I had an 8 iron that left the club, didn’t leave the flagstick. The ball probably moved 1 yard in the air. I came up like 4 yards short.  Distance wedges - Needs work.  Short Game - needs work from different lies. Putting - Made almost everything inside of 10 ft.  Going forwards, still going to work on the swing. Backswing length and arms down stuff. I need to work on my distance wedges a lot.
