I see that but like you said, there will always be outliers. Tiger certainly is one. That has no bearing on the 10% you advocate. If anything it’s quite a bit tougher. That’s what made his win so amazing.

Do any of y'all know what the highest final round score, by a major championship winner. is?  The highest score I've found, so far, is Henry Cotton's closing 79 in the 1934 Open Championship at Royal St. George's.

I don't know if it's the highest, but Fred Herd shot 84-85-75-84 to win the 1898 US Open.  And I can tell you that Varner's 81 today broke the record for worst score by a player in the final grouping on the final day of a major (they typically didn't assign tee times by score until the TV era).

If you allow events where they only played two rounds, Bob Martin won the 1876 Open with 86-90.

Guys, I wasn't able to watch or even follow the PGA championship unfortunately after Friday.  I see Brooks shot -7, -5, level and +4.  I am just wondering whether the course was that difficult over the weekend or he just played a brilliant first two rounds to win.  Because I see DJ for example has been under par all four rounds

I did a gamblers six pack on who would win, made the bets on Wednesday. I threw a few extra bucks on BK because he’s been playing well but is also one of the longest drivers, and this was touted as an incredibly long course. BK and DJ were my safe bets at 11-1 and 10-1, long shots were Spieth (63-1!!!), Finau 40–1, Bryson 44-1, Fleetwood 26-1. 

When I saw Spieth at 63-1, I had to double check if a) he’s healthy and b) if he was still actually playing. That was clearly a mistake by the bookies. He had played well coming into this one and while he didn’t look happy, he has the tools and the drive to put it all together. He could win either Open and be a 40-1 play. 

 

Honestly, golf betting needs trifectas. quinellas, superfectas, etc. Sweating a $5 trifecta that pays four figures would be a lot of fun lol

If you missed the fairway, you were in trouble. The rough was long and wet. This is where I saw most struggle.

Brooks played brilliant the first 3 1/2 round. Then he played poorly for 4 straight holes. He then recovered and thanks to some troubles for DJ he won by 2. What I saw were cracks forming the BKs confidence. But then he just went back to doing what he does best, hit the driver long and straight and recovered to win. He had a couple great approach shots too. The 18th tee shot went in the rough, but he played smart for the bogey to win.

Dustin Johnson shot 82 at Pebble Beach in 2010 when he was leading.

A cool statistic that Koepka can take from winning this is that he is the first player to simultaneously hold back to back majors at the same time.

Now is it reasonable Koepka can do the USO three-peat? That's something no one has ever done.

Curtis Strange tied for 21st in 1990 in his 3peat attempt. Ben Hogan 3rd in his. He would have won 4 in a row if he won in 1952.

I nodded off after Brookes birdied the 10th and didn't wake up till he was on the 15th so imagine my surprise to find out his lead had been down to 1 at one point. Kind of weird that I had a dream about waiting for my turn to tee off and the two guys before me did great and then it was my turn and promptly whiffed my first 2 swings. My third swing was so bad that I came close to hitting somebody with my driver and I was told to leave the course. Like I said, weird. I don't recall ever having a dream that was obviously related to something I was watching when I fell asleep.

He has a much better chance than Strange did going in. Pebble Beach is not a long course and it will be interesting to see if he plays aggressive and tries to bomb it through the dog legs. There are five par-4s there he can probably get it within 50 yards if he takes driver. And he can birdie all the par-5s easy. They didn’t have that long of rough in 2010. Not sure if they’re going to keep it down again. Weather is obviously the curve ball in all of this, but as of now, I wouldn’t bet against him.

Haha!!!  I can relate.

Kudos to BK for winning his second PGA Championship in a row.  However, he did show he was not immune to pressure down the stretch.

I don't know how many more majors BK will win, but it is interesting to see that Rory and Spieth have started out with a Bang! in majors like BK and have stalled lately.
