I know it’s notnexactly ethical, but...

today I went to a local course and went to the diving range and chipping green for a couple hours.  After, I was walking to may car at about 6pm and looked over and there was no one on 10 and no one coming up 9.   So in just walked over and teed it up.  Walked 9 in about an hour and 20min with no one in front of me.   Kind of  Exhillerating.  Played well too.  Maybe the adreniline had something to do with that.

Yeah, I did the deed back when I was in college. It's actually what got me interested in golf, or at least the start of my journey.

I have a cousin that lives on one of the local courses. There is an HOA agreement with the course that home owners can use the course after hours. Done that with him a few times.

I use to be the first one out on the back 9 at a course. Green fee was $10, and included a breakfast. I'd get to the 12th hole, and a few of the home owners would be coming out of their backyards with their trollies an make the back loop before the paying customers got there.

At my local course, they caught guys who would pick up balls on the driving range a night. Story went that they would fill a basket with balls, and then use them on the driving range the next day. Not much was done I heard since they all lived on the course, and paid regular green fees.

Technically I have to say yes.  I had good friends that lived on the 17th hole of a local course and on a few occasions we'd go out late at night after a few beers and huck a few balls into the green while drinking a few more beers.  We were responsible enough - didn't make a bunch of noise, picked up our trash and repaired any divots.  I didn't see anything wrong with it and would do it again, though of course it was trespassing.

Same here.

The killer thing about this is that it would be a complete no-brainer at the courses I play. There are almost never starters after noon. Nobody has ever heard of a ranger there. The first tees are well outside of view from the pro shop. Certain people take advantage of this all the time.

I voted no. Have had a few opportunities on a Sunday afternoon at one of the courses I practice at. The 5th tee box is very near the chipping green and I am often the only one over there chipping. Just couldn’t bring myself to do it.

I voted no because of how the question is framed.

I have snuck onto golf courses, but it was to fish in the ponds just before dark, not to golf.

The Old Course has no starters on duty on Christmas Day, so I once snuck out for a quick 18 at about 7am (despite the fact it was pitch black for the first two holes...).  Played the first 14 holes without seeing a single other group, shot an 82 despite a being +9 after 5 holes, and was still home by 11am when the rest of the family was waking up - all in all a pretty magical experience.

About 17-18 years ago I was playing with a friend of mine at the Augusta Country Club. I want to say it's the 10th hole that backs up to Augusta National. We were playing in the summer so the National was not open but you could see down on a pretty good chunk of Amen corner. So I jumped the fence and tried to run down to hole 11 (I think) just to hit one shot towards the green. They must have had cameras or something because no one was around when I decided to jump the fence and within about 5 minutes I could see some people driving carts towards me. I took off and jumped back over the fence. We headed back to the parking lot, got in the car and took off.  So I don't know if that counts as sneaking on the  golf course. I did hit the shot.

Yes and no. I’ve never “snuck”on to a course but the Muni down the street has an “unwritten” rule that people are allowed to walk the course on Christmas Day, even though the course is technically closed.

All the time. There's a goat track that sometimes closes before the first snowfall and my buddies and I will go play. We once got yelled at by a local guy who works maintenance there, he said he had written down our license plates and was gonna report us.

Yes and no four me too. Ive never just strait up snuck onto the first tee at a course and played a round. But back when i was a kid you used to be able peep the traffic and sneak onto the 2nd or 5th tees on the Red Course at Bethpage from the 18th tee on the black. Play all day. They knew people did it but didn't really care back then. You cant do that crap anymore now that everything is all fancy.

Have I done it? No. Is it tempting? Sure, every day I drive by a golf course in the early spring after the snow has melted but before the courses have opened and I’m jonesing to play golf.

Seriously, I’m 57 years old and I know it’s wrong. At my age it’s far easier to ask for permission than forgiveness.

Many years ago I went to a city owned nine hole course in Lansing in the late fall. Course was closed.  While I stood there trying to decide where else to go two teenagers came up to the chain link fence, dropped their bags on the inside and hopped over the fence.  I dropped my bag over and climbed/fell to the inside.  We played nine together and had a good time.  Inner kid took over that time.

Lived near a public muni that you could hop on the third hole.  Used to go there all the time to look for balls but also sneak in a handful of holes.  I'd sell the golf balls on Sundays in old egg cartons.

Memories.  🙂

My high school course was a poorly maintained course that went through residential areas and crossed many public roads, so it has lots of easy access points.  In high school during the season, we played there for free so, I would walk on at one of the roads often enough.  I was supposed to always check in of course, but idk.  Since high school, I have not tried to sneak back onto a course and I, most likely, never will.

    • That was a good watch. When I started working on pelvis in the backswing. I thought, this sounds contradictory to those leg straightening threads on the site. Erik has already done a correction. Then the last lesson we went more down the route of feeling the right knee gains flex. It doesn’t, but the feeling keeps my knee position in a good range. Also, I just realized how much extra work my right hip needed to do to stabilize the body with the proper weight shift. Those glute and hip stabilizers got worked. 🤣 I wish this evolution in the golf instruction happened 20 years ago! 😭
    • I've been Playing Golf for: 40 yrs My current handicap index or average score is: 4.0 factor My typical ball flight is: Straight however sometimes slight draw. The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: squirt to the right due to to much arm not enough turn. • The first issue Erik spoke about is something we worked on for my swing during both GEARS sessions. GEARS was showing my pelvis center moving towards the ball during the back swing. I wasn’t the 4” guy though! This forced me to correct on the downswing to give myself space. My hip rotation was to high as well. We corrected it by first getting the weight off my heels in my stance and getting my posture correct. Then the feel was shifting back into my right hip at a 45 degree angle. This kept my pelvis center from moving towards the ball at the start of the backswing. I also didn’t sway back as much as I felt I did because of the angle I was shifting. Feel Ain’t Real. The cool thing about GEARS is as you work on something you can see the exact (Real) change happening. On video, it is much harder to spot this issue because of the 2D nature of filming. But I know what to look for now. Sadly, I was hurt all last year and most of this year so I really haven’t been able to work on it much. I did do a lot of backswing work though.
