From all of this data, it becomes much easier to decipher what it takes to win the Green Jacket: Dominating approach shots and putting for the week and managing additional gains on the field in driving and the short game, making ANGC , statistically, like any other course. From 2015 to 2018, the top 5 players each year gainedβ€”surprise!β€”an average of 30 percent of their strokes in approach shots, 30 percent in putting, 20 percent in driving, and 20 percent in the short game.

I feel like this is typical for most tournaments. Maybe it's more evident at Augusta.

Don’t you think SG from putting would be a higher number at ANGC than courses with β€˜easier greens’?

I’m treading in unfamiliar water here so bear with me. It seems that 30% SG from Approach and 30% from Putting would be those numbers because if you’re putting well on a course with difficult greens you’re leaving the pack. Β If 10 players all have an 8’ putt at ANGC you may see 4 of them make it. But 10 players with an 8’ at a flatter, softer course you may see 6 make it. So you’re gaining more strokes in the field if you putt well on a course that is giving more players a hard time at the green.Β 

Does this make any sense at all? I completely admit I’m sub-moronic when it comes to statistics.
