Woody? Β Nobody calls Tiger Woods 'woody,' man.

Woody calls himself woody, but if you don't care for silly nicknames please refer to him as Eldrick.

I have never heard Tiger refer to himself as "Woody". That doesn't mean he doesn't, just means I never heard it.

It's tough to argue against Brandel's assertation that "bulk is bad".Β Β Β  One the other extreme, there areΒ  guys like Chesson Hadley & Justin Thomas that have very little muscle mass & it works for them - muscle mass just isn't needed to hit a golf ball far.Β Β Β Β  There are far more lean and lanky pros than muscled up types like Rory & Tiger.

As to the comment of going back to his old coachesΒ - I think Tiger should go coachless and see if he can figure it out HIMSELF.Β Β Β Seems these guys are so fixated on having aΒ swingΒ coach at their side 24/7 that they dumb themselves down &Β don't think for themselves.Β Β Β  Tiger should try the Ben Hogan approach & dig some serious dirt and see what works for him & the body he has leftΒ Β ...

No it's not because Brandel is wrong.

Is Olympic weight lifting bulk a hindrance, probably. Tiger isn't even close to the bulk of a typical body builder who wants to look big. Tiger is your classic athletic build type. He's not small and he's not huge, he's in great shape. That is the same with Rory. He's not bulky at all.

Tell that to Rory who went from averaging 295 in 2008 to averaging 310 yards in 2012 ;)

You take a young Rory and get him to go from 24% body fat to 10% body fat by adding muscles he's gained a lot of distance.

Even the guys who are lanky and lean, like Justin Thomas, must do something in the swing that the more muscular pros do not do to gain distance.

Would it be easier for Thomas if he hit heavier weights?

Probably.

Maybe Tiger should think about going modern. He is known to play a higher spinning ball in his career.

How about a high launch, low spin ball, a positive angle of attack (up to 4-5 degrees), and increased pelvis height would help.

Now where have we heard this before? :-O

Oh, yes, in TST. B-)

Pretty much agree with this. I don't believe Chamblee has anything against Tiger other than perhaps the same anger that the rest of us feel wondering what the heck is going on. He has strong opinions, some maybe right, some maybe wrong, and he has an outlet to voice them.

I think Chamblee genuinely wants Tiger to do well just like (most of) the rest of us.

I agree with this. Β I think Chamblee is just doing his job. I don't believe he has anything against Tiger. Β Let's face it Tiger is a "needle mover" and Chamblee makes a living commenting on players who are of interest to his audience. Β I think he has some valid points on Tiger's career in that most of the great golfers might tweak their swings at times but Β they don't go out and rebuild it from scratch. So it is different and worthy of comment and evaluation of results. Β One has to ask what would Tiger's record be like if he had stuck with the swing he started his career with. Β I don't know the answer to that but it makes for interesting commentary and that's what the Chamblee gets paid for.

Butch

I think he figured he was not going to win or contend so he may as well commit to trying to do the swing stuff he was doing on the course and use it as a way of playing around with stuff in a way you can not do on the range. That is my definition of goofing around. He was not trying to shoot the lowest score he was trying to use the round as a practice round.

I am shocked. Tiger has some guts to use Jack's backyard as a place to work on his swing. :-D

@Phil McGleno .

Good call.

Tiger was playing golf swing that day, not golf. I think that is what "baseline shift" means.

+1 @Phil McGleno

I would've never guessed. Β That explains Tiger's 85 on Saturday.

Does that mean he had it somewhat figured it out on Sunday?

If so, that bodes well for the remainder of the year.

I'll have to remember the term "baseline shift" for the next time I fall apart and shoot a crappy round.Β  "I didn't suck today, I was making a baseline shift!"

I find it a little hard to swallow that a seasoned pro would use a weekend round at a tournament as a practice round to work on their game and make a "baseline shift".Β  But hey, it's his story - he can tell it however he wants.

Baseline shifts, caught between patterns, tweaking his backswing....for Christ's sake Tiger, stop being so damn mechanical and just play some friggin golf. It's nauseating to listen to.

Agree but the truth is, Tiger doesn't know wtf is going on. He's searching. This baseline shift bs is just that but he's trying to convince himself of all these things, trying to just figure it out cuz he's baffled. I do hope he works through it but I think he's digging himself deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole.

IΒ pretty much agree, Tiger likes to tinker with his swing but I think at this point he's trying to get his swing back to a consistent place and isn't quite sure how to proceed.
