Thanks @StuM for getting the ball rolling. I am interested. Cleveland is fine. There is always a possibility of a conflict down the road but a Saturday in May should work.

Yea he was talking about it last time but I didn’t know it was a done deal.

To be fair there’s another guy I know that goes to these things from the Boston area 😉

Hi all, the rumors are mostly correct. We did sell our house in Erie, and purchased a house in Alton, New Hampshire. That is in the central part of the state, near the southeast corner of Lake Winnipesaukee, not too far from some big mountain skiing and also only about 90 minutes from our daughter in Arlington, MA.

For now at least, we are keeping our vacation condo at Peek'n Peak, so we will be back in NW PA for a week or two every few months. If it looks like a visit will coincide with a TST outing, I will definitely sign up.  And if anyone finds themselves up in NH, come play a round with me at The Oaks G. C. near Rochester NH.

Looking at courses:

I have 2 possible locations.

1) Boulder Creek, Streetsboro, OH - off Ohio Turnpike SE of Cleveland. $71 per round

2) Avalon Lakes, Warren, OH - Further East of Cleveland, a little North of Youngstown. $165 per round.

I’ve played Avalon Lakes before and it is a good course, a little pricey.  I’ve never played Boulder Creek but seems to have good reviews.

I would try to find a 2nd course nearby for a round on Sunday morning for those choosing to spend the night.

I realize Avalon Lakes is a little pricier but personally, if I am driving 4 hours I want a nice round and price is if less concern.  Thoughts on cost?

This is just my start of finding a location and I am open to suggestions.

You might not get a rave review by a certain few here on Boulder Creek 😉

Here are some other suggestions.

Ellsworth Meadows (Hudson, OH)
Brookledge (Cuyahoga Falls, OH)
Little Mountain (Painesville, OH)
Shale Creek (Medina, OH)

I will be one of those who would really prefer not to go to BC. I've played AL a few times, and our conference championship used to be there. It's pricy, and while I'd call ahead and get a pretty cheap rate for me, $165 is likely more than most others will want to spend. It's also pretty far east (and south) of Cleveland, so I'd look at Matt's list and look around this site for more info, too: https://golfclevelandohio.com. There's a map and everything.

At this time my thought is Saturday May 20, 2023 as only 1 person was not good for that date (Sorry @Chris Brooks).  I'm hoping for Little Mountain Country Club in Painesville, OH ($59 w/ cart included) and have been trading emails with them.  The one issue we are hitting is that they would book us now for the morning but will not book for the afternoon until Mid-April because of "Potential Events".  With people driving I was looking at tee times starting at 1pm.  I would hate to think I have a plan then 4/5 weeks out lose the course and be scrambling but that may be where we are at.

I'm also thinking a Sunday morning round at Fowler's Mill in Chesterland, OH (south of Little Mountain) for those that want to spend the night but have not heard back from them yet.

Now, my current question is who would might be interested in spending the night and golfing on Sunday morning?

Below are the current tentative golfers for Saturday May 20, 2023

  1. @StuM
  2. @iacas
  3. @ChetlovesMer
  4. @dennyjones
  5. @boogielicious
  6. @klineka
  7. @billchao
  8. @saevel25
  9. @bkuehn1952
  10. @Divot Master
  11. @vasaribm
  12. @David L Yskes
  13. @Jeremie Boop
  14. @CarlSpackler

I hope the list grows as we get closer and the "Golf Bug" hits people after being stuck inside for the winter.

You could book a backup course, and cancel a month out if you're able to get out to Little Mountain.

I've played LM a bunch of times and can share some feedback on a few holes. It's solid. Can be in not-so-great shape sometimes, but overall, it's good.

Did you look at the golfclevelandohio.com site?

P.S. I heard Fowler's was in ROUGH shape in 2022. Maybe that has changed, but heads up.

    • A 5400 yd course is not that short for gents driving it 160 yards considering the approach shot lengths they are going to be faced with on Par 4s.  Also, for the course you are referring to I estimate the Par 4s have to average longer than 260 yds, because the Par 5s are 800 yds or so, and if there are four Par 3s averaging 130 the total is 1320 yds.  This leaves 4080 yds remaining for 12 Par 4s.  That is an average of 340 per hole. Anyway, if there are super seniors driving it only 160ish and breaking 80 consistently, they must be elite/exceptional in other aspects of their games.  I play a lot of golf with 65-75 yr old seniors on a 5400 yd course.  They all drive it 180-200 or so, but many are slicers and poor iron players.  None can break 80. I am 66 and drive it 200 yds.  My average score is 76.  On that course my average approach shot on Par 4s is 125 yds.  The ten Par 4s average 313 yds.  By that comparison the 160 yd driver of the ball would have 165 left when attempting GIR on those holes.
    • I don't think you can snag lpga.golf without the actual LPGA having a reasonable claim to it. You can find a ton of articles of things like this, but basically: 5 Domain Name Battles of the Early Web At the dawn of the world wide web, early adopters were scooping up domain names like crazy. Which led to quite a few battles over everything from MTV.com You could buy it, though, and hope the LPGA will give you a thousand bucks for it, or tickets to an event, or something like that. It'd certainly be cheaper than suing you to get it back, even though they'd likely win. As for whether women and golfers can learn that ".golf" is a valid domain, I think that's up to you knowing your audience. My daughter has natalie.golf and I have erik.golf.
